Black Screen Runtime Error.

i started getting the above error 2 days after i purchased the game, up until then it was running perfectly fine no errors or crash's in the slightest and then after i quit the game and came back to start another 2 hours later i have been getting the above error.

shortly after i started getting this error i compeltely deleted everything to do with the game and completely redownloaded and installed the game from SDC and continue to get the error, i have also tryed turning "ShowIntroMovies" to FALSE with no luck.

Abit IP-35 Pro
3.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0
2x 2GB Geil Black Dragon PC2-6400C5 800MHz Ram

Good luck figuring it out. I, too, am having the same issue with no fixes in sight that I'm aware of. Editing the config files: windowed, stopping movies from playing, etc doesn't do a thing. No real answers to the cause either. Really frustrating when you buy something and can't play it. At all. Doesn't even load past the black screen before the runtime error comes up.

High end computer system must be failing me cause I sure can't figure it out  (:(

I've been getting this too. Though usually not until I've been playing for a little while(about an hour?). It is highly frustrating, but thank god for autosaving.

I've got a brand new system that I built myself, well above the recommended specs for the game. I have the 1.02 patch.

Vista
Intel Core 2 Quad, 2.4ghz
2GB DDR3 1333mhz SDRAM
Geforce 8800GT

I'm one of those sorts who ends up playing despite this sort of thing, but it's killing my ability to play multiplayer. Which was actually one of the big draws for me.

Hoping for a fix or a work-around. =/

I also have this problem. Where do I file the bug?

I have a machine that meets the recommended system requirements. It has the latest video driver and runs Windows XP Home. In fact, This machine played Beta 2 of the game just fine!

I tried unplugging each of the USB peripherals one at a time without success.
I tried changing the following items in user.settings, one at a time without success.


VideoAdapterOrdinal 1
VideoIsWindowed TRUE
TextureCompressionEnabled FALSE
TextureQualityForShipColor 2
TextureQualityForShipData 2
TextureQualityForShipBump 2
TextureQualityForModuleColor 3
TextureQualityForModuleData 2

ShowIntroMovies FALSE
ShowOpeningCinematic FALSE
LogOutput TRUE


I would offer to include the logs, but the program wrote only zero-length files.

I just updated the program from StardockCentral, so more to follow...

Only thing I can recommended you guys is that there is no overclock to your system and that your not using a pirated copy of the game or windows vista.
Some windows vita floating around the web are not final version so buy it to be sure it work 100% ok.

I just bought the game, installed on Dell XPS system (high horsepower) and the screen just goes blank and black on launch.

STill have black screen here, cant play:
Windows 32 XP Home
AMD 2.2GHZ Single core
Radeon 9600xt 256 (with latest drivers)
2 gigs ram

Ive tried several solutions, like changing to windowed version etc., nothing works. I will post a error log if someone can post where to find this information.

I'm also getting the same problem. When I launch I get a black screen for about 10 seconds, then a different shade of black for about a second, then that error.

I bought this game last week. installed it got a black screen at launch. updated the game to current version still get black screen at launch. did all those suggestion about setting movie to false and so on, still black screen. and yes I have sent of a request for help and its been about a week now with no reply back :(

and yes my machine meets the recommended specs, and everything is up to date.

hmm Just tried installing this game on my laptop which has much better specs than my pc, and it is doing the same thing. im not sure if this is related but spore is not starting up either on both machines to. for my game spore I click on it and nothing happens, but if I open of the process window  of the task manager it will say spore is running. the odd thing is spore worked on both machines for 3 weeks before it broke on me.

joy, I've got the same issue.  Clean install, patched to latest, on start it locks up my PC when displaying the second logo.

Has anyone found out why this is occuring? I just purchased the game and it was running fine. I was actually enjoying it quite a bit. Downloaded the patches from impulse. Now when I start the game I just get a black screen, after a few seconds the screen becomes a bit lighter in color then nothing, I do get a curser to pop up sometimes other than that no luck on anything. I would hope as long as the game has been out and there is posts about this from feb 08 almost a year ago that this issue has been resolved and someone knows how to take care of it.  Could someone please help, I enjoy the game and am hoping I havent just wasted my money.

 

Ok I finaly was able to get to a screen and see the error code of a minidump. I ended up uninstalling Sins and then deleting all the files associated with the game that was left behind. After that I was able to reload the basic game and now I am back to playing. I just cant loaded the extras or the patches yet.

i just had the same problem happen when i ran the game on my netbook, it was fine untill i hit alt ctrl delete to exit because the resolution wouldnt let me hit the exit button, now it wont work at all even with a mod and , install and reinstall
