AI and diplomacy

I think that when you start a new singleplayer, you should be at 50% diplomacy with the AI, or something other than 0. I'm in a 4 player FFA with the AI and about 7 hours into it and i'm fighting all 3. It's pretty much a stale-mate. What to do?
