Vista 64 Issues?

Well this game certainly looks great. I wouldn't know otherwise though because I can't get in for more than 2 minutes before it completely bombs. Sometimes it just crashes to windows, but now it seems to just lock things up completely. I have the 1.02 patch for the game and updated drivers all around on my PC. The following are three problem reports for crash events for the game:

My Relevant Computer Specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66Ghz
4 Gig Ram
Dual Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX in SLI
Vista 64

I've read a few posts about problems with Vista 64 and Nvidia, but nothing concrete. Is this a confirmed issue? I've also tried reducing my quality settings to all High with no luck and running in windowed mode with no luck. Right now I'm stuck just moving the box art in front of my screen and making crappy sci fi noises with my mouth (pew pew)prtending that I'm actually playing the game. Please help.

Working ok for me on 64 bit vista with a core2 4 gb ram and a GTX

I would try disabling SLI and changing to single card mode and also changing the multithread option from auto to off in the Nvidia drivers, if that doesnt work change all settings to app controlled

It has never crashed for me on my 64b quadcore with dual GTX-U.

FWIW, it's working great for me on Vista 64. My video card is an NVIDIA 8800 GT card using WHQL 169.25 drivers.

I'm definately getting the crashing as well. Running 2 8800GTX's in SLI with the 169.28 Forceware. Been looking forward to getting into this game but I can't progress very far before the computer has a hard freeze.

Thank you for your insightful and well supported argument :NOTSURE:

FWIW I have had no problems either of my 64 bit vista computers. One is an AMD 5200+ with 2 gb ram and the onboard 690g AMD chipset. The other is an e6400 with 3gb ram and a 2900xt

I don't mean to post another "it works for me" response, but I have a 3870 Crossfire setup in Vista 64 and have logged about 8+ hours of gameplay without a hitch.

Can you test it by disabling SLI and going with one card? Just as a test.

Working fine with 64-bit Vista here as well, and I'm using the 1.02 patch. I have a slighty beefier CPU (6850) and only one of your cards :)

Using 169.25 for the GPU drivers and whatever Vista installed for my motherboard chipset. I logged well over 8 hours (probably closer to 40) without a single crash or lock-up.

That said, I'd look at your other running processes to make sure it isn't something there. I do have the Windows defender and all of the UAC garbage disabled so I don't know if that could make a difference.

As others have suggested, try switching off SLI. The SLI drivers have issues...

Vista64 with 8gb of ram, AMD X2 6000 and a 7950gx2... only problem I have is it freezes from time to time. No crash yet, so I am considering myself lucky.

I can already tell right now that this has much better support than games from EA! I'm a huge FPS fan so I tend to stick with games like BF2/2142, COD4 and Crysis. EA/Dice is horrible with the BF series.

At least here the developers talk to you :)

Game runs great for me on a Vista 64, Core 2 Duo and Geforce 8800GTS system.

And dont bother listening to the trolls that bash Vista, most of the time its guys that dont even own Vista, so they only repeat dogma that they have read and dont really know what they are talking about.....its quite pitiful really.

Just bringing this back up again because I am also Running Vista 64bit and running the latest 177.83, the faq has been updated to show that nvidia did fix the bug that was known but I still have to switch off SLI to play SoaSE for more than an hour. There is a SLI profile in there, I tried turning off the SLI to run on a single gpu bit still crashes. My problem is that when running SLI I get a black screen and I can't do anything I have to hard restart my computer.

Here are my sys specs:
AMD 4x4 FX74, NForce 680a SLI Chipset, 4GB Mushkin, 2x 8800GTX BFG OC WC Edition SLI, on board sound, Win Vista 64bit SP1

Stardock if I need to bring this up to Nvidia I will just let know please and do you guys think it will be fixed with the new graphics update in the 1.1 patch?

so every one else that runs vista 64 bit with sli turned on is working perfectly fine no issues its just me?

The issue referred to in the FAQ was a general driver issue with nVidia cards. I'm not sure what the status of SLI is at present offhand.

As some others have suggested, disable SLI and multithreading.  If that doesn't work, change all your GFX card settings to application controlled.

It should always be remembered that most vista compatability issues can be easily solved by running the game in administrater mode.  This can be accomplished by right clicking on the game's shortcut and selecting "run as administrator."  This solves most of the issues I have running XP games on Vista.

Multi-threading has nothing to do with it, afaik.

I have to disable SLI for this to work I also use Vista Codec Package and anything I run in wmp with sli turned on it locks up the comp just the same. I am not getting a bsod just a black screen in sins and the screen is locked with wmp, I could be getting a bsod but you can't run multi mon when sli is turned on and I don't have a second screen. I was running dual boot for a while and xp always ran with no problems it must be with vista 64 or nvidia's drivers. Another thing that is odd is I can play other games just fine like Crysis, Lego Indiana Jones, Hellgate London, STALKER, UT3 and this list can keep going on but at least I now know it isn't something with SINS thanks kyro for letting me know.

Well here is something interesting. I just installed the nforce 15.23 drivers and now my video replay is working just fine with sli turned on. I am going to test sins here in a little while but if any one else is running Vista 64 with SLI freezing try this, I will report back when I am done playing.

I have the same problem with my 64-bit Vista Ultimate SP1 with it (totally) locking up about a minute into the tutorial. Have to hard reset the machine to bring it back up. Running Radeon 4870 (Catalyst 8.9), 4GB RAM, Q9450. Have had no problems in the past with Vista running a wide range of current games and none with the couple of games I've installed over the weekend. I will most likely return Sins to store unless I find a full fix quickly.
