hotkey for selecting fleets?

When I played in the beta we were able to make a group of ships and select them with a number key. It was awesome. We were even able to set the way-points to the group on the empire window and ships would automatically join up as they were made. That was awesome too!

I have suspections that my install may well be bugged, but, I'll go on anyway.

Now, in the final version, they have separated "groups" from "fleets". I don't mind this, however.. I can now no longer select my fleets from a number key. I've looked all over the UI hotkey menu and cant find an option for it. I can no longer select a "fleet" as a waypoint (the ships just follow and don't actually join). I no longer have the option to pin "groups" to the empire bar (thus I can't set a waypoint to a group). How could I select my big massive fleet-oh-death in the middle of a hectic battle involveing 4 or more of my fleets-oh-death? I could very well click the icon in the empire window but when I'm franticly looking around and micro managing its kinda hard to see.

Am I bugged? Does the new system work for everyone else or is it like this for everybody? As it is I have a hard time playing.

The way fleets and groups are handled is one of my biggest gripes with the game so far.

If there is a way to make newly built ships auto join a fleet and hotkey that fleet, I don't know how to do it.

I noticed this too but thought I was crazy. Units rallying to a hotkey group should automatically join that group (or be provided as an option).

I noticed that they replaced that with "Fleets" as well. It's annoying. The "Fleets" thingamajig isn't as refined or streamlined as the Control Groups, and control groups no longer show up on the empire tree, even when you attempt to pin them. I can create and select control groups, but unless I remember that I have done so, and know how to do so again, it's as if they never existed.

I also noticed other problems with the grouping as well. Ships seem to have trouble with orders if they're in a group. They don't phase jump in groups anymore when I set them to. If they're in a fleet, I select the fleet, and order them to go there, making sure that they're set to "Phase Jump Together", they don't. They get in formation, and then jump separately.

So yes, there are definitely many problems with how they've decided to handle ship control for the release version.

I'm slightly disappointed they didn't let us test it out to check for flaws. It's annoying and cumbersome to remedy when it happens.

If you have your rally point set to a sector that contains a fleet, they will autojoin when they enter.

This is the case for everything save for a couple of utility ships, as far as I have seen.

Wow, so I'm not alone. Think they will patch it back to the way it used to be and just have fleets and groups be the same thing again?

Really quick responces! :D

Thanks Mattsw104 for letting me know I'm not alone with this issue.

I've had a lot of difficulty adjusting to the retail version, ships not auto joining fleets that they are set to rally to. Lack of visibility of fleet config and the ability to easily attack and detach ships while visibly seeing it occure threw a group management type interface.

Is there any word on a refinement of the retail release fleet management in the upcoming patch?

Yeah, I didn't know that they changed it in the final version and was very confused the first game i played!

Basically, I will make a fleet and just hot key it usually.

To add ships to a fleet you have to set the rally point on the icon for the fleet IN THE GAME SCREEN, not on the side bar.

Really? I'll have to try that. :D
