More Research Labs - Benefit?

Hi,

After playing my first game i saw that you "just" need 8 research-labs to max out you research.
Are there any benefits to build more than 8 labs of one kind ?

Can I add to this that, once you have researched the things you need, that you can then scuttle the labs, wihtout affecting existing tech, to free up logistics slots later in the game?

You must keep your labs otherwise you will lose access to any ships or structures you unlocked. The only benefit to building more than 8 per tree is insurance. We often try to hamper our enemies efforts by taking out research (e.g deny him the ability to build more heavies).

Can we expect new research items to require more than 8 labs? Im with you all the way up too 50 (hehe, or maybe 30) labs for some heavy research items, if it would be best that way for large maps ^.^ :D
