Beta 4C Bug: Korath Destroyed, Ships Remain

I destroyed the Korath and got the message that their ships had joined a number of other races. However, there are several Korath ships that still say they belong to the Korath. They sit immobile but respond when attacked. Savegame mailed.

I've seen this as well with just about every AI race not only in this Beta but in previous versions of the game, including non-beta versions.

I'm not sure what's the best "logical" solution to this problem.

Should they continue attacking you, ie the captain is on a personal vendetta?
Should they automatically join your empire, since you took over their empire?
Should they join another empire in the hope of fighting you (would this be considered a surrender, and how would it be governed by surrender settings)?
Should they simply disappear?
Should they temporarily disappear, then reappear as part of Jaggen Knife or Pirates?

The ships are supposed to join other races or turn pirate, which they usually do. They're just not supposed to be still claiming to belong to a nonexistent faction.
