Ironclad online

At the moment I am unable to go online. Whenever I try to log in I must wait for about 20 seconds and then it says disconnected from Ironclad online. I am linked to a wireless router, and that could be the problem, but I was wondering if anyone else had this same problem? Not quite sure how I would go about solving if it had to do with my router, Since I have no clue how routers work.

Ok, I've actually had a bit of time to test things now (sorry it was 3 am when I made this post, after I had just returned from work). I've tried to plug my computer directly into my cable modem bypassing my wireless router (it is of the type of NEtgear WGT624v3) and I still came up with the same problem. I am unable to get online into Ironclads games period.

My internet works fine behind a router and without the router.
I do have firewalls, but I never have them on and I certainly didn't have them activated when trying to play the game.
Windows firewall is of course disabled.
I downloaded that latest bonus patch. I had this problem before and after the patch.
What do I need to do to start playing online, anybody?

If you have a router, enable UPnP and that should do it. If it doesn't you can try Port Forwarding port 6000 and 6112.  Failing that, it sounds like you're just unable to reach the server (so post back in that event).

Well my UPnp was already enabled, however my problem has been fixed. I decided to uninstall my firewall and virus protection, and as soon as I did that, my problems went away. Thanks for your help anyway. Cheers.

i think i found the problem on my part. my campus blocks access ports that are explicit or undefined so i think they might be blocking 6112 and 6000, what confuses me is that i can play other multiplayer games just fine, maybe they have different ports. anyways i hope that someday i can play multiplayer :(

Soooo is there anything that can be done to fix this i mean its not like i cant play any other multiplayer game i have???

Most other online games (FPS's etc.) use a client-server network structure. Sins is a peer-to-peer, so routers, firewalls, other security software (especially that POS norton) as well as University firewalls and ISP filtering can and will cause problems.

This is the nature of multi-player gaming! There is a learning curve. You did have to learn how to drive a car didn't you?  :p

Anyway,

I have posted a nice (easy-to-read) guide to "networking for the gamer" in the Technical forum. Give it a read.

jjjuuusssttt great guess i cant play multiplayer until summer then SOB. my campus wont allow me to make "changes" in our peer to peer policy just to play a game.

Enabling UPnP is a very bad idea. It allows any program to open up ports on your router and has no security mechanisms in place to prevent abuse. Not only will Sins be able to open up the required ports on the router but so will any malicious program you happen to inadvertently download and execute. This essentially nullifies the security benefits you get from having a router.

im hoping they will get rid of the peer to peer idea, it makes things too complicated and impossible for some people who dont have access to their access ports or routers.

I have a D-Link 521 wireless router and UPnP is enabled. I am unable to create an account with ICO as it always returns : "Disconnected from Ironclad Online".

Note: Bitcomet and uTorrent work, so does DC++.

Tried: forwarding port 6000 - no effect
forwarding ports 6000-6200 - no effect
changing GameBroadcastPort in user.setting to something else and forwarding that - no effect
enabling DMZ - no effect

Any solutions or am I stuck at not being able to play online?

ok my firewall isnt a problem because i have it disabled when i try logging on and it is set to have sins allowed anyways and windows firewall is the only one i have. university only tells me they block explicit or undefined ports. tech fax only tells me to check my firewall. i cant port forward because i dont know what router i have since im connecto to a wall jack. university wont tell me since it would violate university policy.

Oleandrummer, random thing to try, does your University provide you with any form of anti-virus software? I have seen some cases where Norton can interfere with Sins being able to host etc so you might try disabling anti-virus and anti-spyware software you might have installed before running the game.

You can't do that. The sheer amount of data a server would have to transfer to each client is impossible.

Since the new patch my ICO is working finally. There was some kind of little ingame check that popped up when I first logged in (forget what it said), and of course I got vista popups warning me of the game (which I allowed) but been smooth sailing since then.

its basic norton antivirus with no firewalls in it ill try and run the game with it disabled (deactivating service)
nope and i know its not norton because i have the same version on my laptop when i go home and multiplayer works fine at home, just not on campus.

is there any way to add more ports to make the game more accessable???

My woes are over. I contacted my network admins and they were blocking all ports. I kindly asked them to unblock 6000 and now it works. :)

Option 1:

rewrite certain aspects of the game's netcode to incorporate NAT-T (NAT traversal) technology so that it'll "tunnel past" routers/firewalls (thereby also making systems more vulnerable to re-bound attacks, reference Microsofts XP security patch closing default NAT-T functionality via the registry)

or

Option 2:

strong-arm the admins at your campus to "forward" all inbound traffic to TCP 6000 and TCP 6112 to only your computer.

You choose!
