Which OS are you running? What kind of privileges does your windows user account have?
Which version of SDC are you running (Help->About SDC)?
Try downloading and archiving (Right click Sins) first, then choose File->Restore Archive (Ctrl+R) and see if that helps any.

I have been wrapped up in playing for the last 5 days! I successfuly downloaded on the 4th try and have been playing since. OMG I'm addicted! I spent about 6 hours making a map of the 12 local star systems and researching the spectral signatures and identified planets as well as AU distances from Sol. Can't you tell I cant stop playing.
