I have been having problems with WindowBlinds, received no help on the forums, and still nothing from support in spite of the fact that they requested my DxDiag file (which I sent).

About half the time when I boot up the taskbar and all the menus are transparent. My workaround is to have a desktop icon for WindowBlinds next to my Start button. When this happens I have to launch WindowBlinds and re-apply my settings. This does not make me happy and it's getting very old.

Also, on some programs I use, the scrollbars aren't working correctly, when I drag the button down the scrollbar, I have to drag the mouse off the button to the RIGHT only, if I leave it on the button or (God forbid) move it into the application, the button jumps back up to it's original location. this will drive you quite insane in about an hour, trust me.

I'm about to uninstall and trash this program. It's pretty - when it works. Too bad this problem didn't show up before I paid money for it, I never would have bought it. If I could get a refund right now I would, good luck with that.

I can understand this guy's frustration, maybe not his attitude, but certainly his frustration.

I've had only one problem with WB. I filed a Tech Support ticket and received courteous help which in the end did not work. Both the support person and I were stumped. He suggested I post on this forum because there's plenty of help to be found here.

The only help I got was the tired old response you see to every problem: 1) copy and paste your WB info here and 2) update your version with SDC.

There are a lot of folks that won't use SDC and I am one of them. I did copy and paste my info hoping someone would see something that the TS person and I missed. Not a single response followed. I passed the "he ain't stealing $20 bucks test."

Fortunately, a solution to my problem was eventually found. I found it after significant trial and error and by posting a more specific question on this forum. I passed the solution back to TS in the hope I might help others who may have the same problem. I also posted it here.

I learned a lot about WB working through that problem. I've been around computers long enough to know there are a lot of complicated interdependencies between software and hardware. When you're on the bad end of one of these problems and nothing is working, it's easy to become frustrated. The last thing you want to read at that point is the same pedantic response you see posted to every problem.

My encouragement to those posting problems here is don't expect a magic bullet to every problem. Keep trying things and post your results here politely. If you try enough things and supply enough info, eventually you will get help. It takes time.

My encouragement to those trying to provide help ... ask questions and offer more assistance than "update with SDC." IMHO I agree with the original poster, SDC is "bloatware." When SD gets rid of all the forum links, forum histories and other unecessary junk SDC adds, maybe I'll re-consider using it. Until then the WB installer works just fine.

How about this: If you're a jerk, please don't buy our software. Ever.

Some people just should not own a computer...period. Especially if you don't have any patience.

I find that not to be the case and if as you stated:

End of quote
then how could you make such a determination.

You can turn those sections off. Unnecessary to you is nifty to another. ;)

Hankers - because I tried SDC ... didn't like the junk it added and then got rid of it. Simple enough concept. I trust you will respect that, even if you don't agree.

SDC might be the right program for those who have the whole Object Desktop package. I own WB, DesktopX and SkinStudio. I don't need a third party program that sprays extra fluff on my hard drive to manage those installations.

I know you're busy on this forum and volunteer your time. No intention to argue with you. I suspect you recommend SDC so you have a starting point to help. On the otherhand, I think it's important for you and others to realize not everyone wants to use SDC. Pushing it down the throat of an already frustrated licensed owner not interested in SDC IMHO isn't good customer service.

"That's all I got to say about that."

Koasatu - I missed the option to turn that stuff off. Thanks. I agree, we all have different tastes. Maybe that's why we're attracted to software that customizes our desktop. Hmmmm :D

SDC is about as useless as Microsoft Update.

Sure you can run your computer/OS without it...but it's such a whole damn more sensible option simply to use it...;)

DC not too funny and myself I do not care what anyone does or has to say about Stardock. For one good reason " They are the BEST! " You may not see it that way. But I've been here for many years now and plan on being here many more. Any time someone tries to customize their computer - they think everything is a snap and user friendly. You know " Like Vista is user friendly " heheheeee..... ya right it is - if you know anything about computers and such.

I plan to be uping my subs here in the next week or so; to where my subs will be good till 2012 for both Object Desktop and WC subs. Plus I've got even more plans to buy things to help pay for the hard work these people do to give us a very refined customized desktop. I enjoy that and I'll never leave and I've never had a support problem either. The support at this site is a hell of a lot better than anything else I've seen. Which most use online support and have someone there that does not know anything about what they are truely doing till you contact them by phone and even then they are lost till they find the right techician to get things done.

My point is that people in general are too qiuck to make a bad decision and point their unhappy experiences [finger] at others they find are so called responsible. Meaning they find the wrong help and come to a unhappy bad decision. People need to be more responsible and have the abilities to communicate their responses carefully. Being careful is the key and having said that I feel it covers this subject well.

But I'm here to stay and you will never here me say anything bad about Stardock. If you look hard you will see what I mean.

Well the difference is like night and day in the manner that MeSleeper and Chazcon present themselves. IMHO there is absolutely nothing wrong with anyone presenting their point of view in the manner that MeSleeper has. Much of what he states is spot on. Could he gain a few points by losing words like 'bloatware' and 'junk'? Sure, but no one should have to tippytoe across eggshells to that degree. I've perused his other postings and he even asked permission to tweak skins on his own personal machine. I also do not use SDC, but I only own a single product - WindowBlinds.

PS - MeSleeper, you had a problem a while back with certain skins that seemed to 'lag'. If you didn't find a fix yet, what worked for me was increasing the 'Screen Refresh Rate' on the Monitor tab in Display Properties advanced section.
Good Luck

mitche323 - thanks for the comments and the suggestion. The lag I saw was slight, but enough that picky ole me noticed it with the more graphic intense skins. That, among other reasons, forced me "to bite the bullet" and replace the old beast with a newer unit. Don't see it anymore.

I have a widescreen LCD. I've tried playing with the refresh rate, but haven't seen much effect. Do refresh rates even apply with LCD's? Curious minds want to know :)

Thanks again.

Yeah, it was about GalCiv2's many little insects. Somehow Stardock Central threaded me here (just another bug ;-) and all symptoms in the initial post looked sooo familiar... who might think it was about another program.
