daygo . .as long as you've posted here you've had trouble with SD apps.  I think it's your system.  Rebuild it from scratch.

Could not help it when I saw that I thought of Daygo, so had it ready for when he came along to say computer in trouble again.

Sure he will sort it in a bit he always seems to get it up and running again.

Try clearing the cache and see if that makes any difference.

DesktopX doesn't work only on a computers with Vista SP1 installed.  :(

So uninstall DesktopX if you use Vista SP1 and wait until Stardock will finally solve this problem. In the other case (agree with Zubaz) you really need to reinstall your Operating System.

UM.... theres been a "solution" to the Desktop X and SP1 issue....

it deals with with UAC.. Simply Turn it on... for some reason at a time Desktop X on a system with SP1 the program had issues if the UAC was turned off.. Turn it on and then Wah LA! a Solution and Desktop X works..

I'm sorry Anne, but UAC has no attitude to DesktopX bugs! The problem is that a few DesktopX built-in functions work incorrectly on Vista...  (:(  Especially on Vista with SP1!

May tell you with a big secret that UAC is one more "Microsoft Virus" like MSN Messenger that really disturb us on our computers.

Please look here: WWW Link

You will find a good advices how to speed up your Vista PC. I have already used all of them and now my system work very quickly and correctly. By the way without UAC and other "viruses"...

This is very interesting Information!

I have tested DX with Vista Ultimate SP1 beta. Every time any of my gadgets as well as DesktopX Builder have been stopped with a lot of error messages. Then I have uninstalled SP1 and decided to wait for its finished version.

Okay. Today I'll install SP1 RC (that I already downloaded) and will test it again. Then I'll report about the results.

I think that is part of the fun hitting trouble and being able to sort it out in the end.
Might take a while but worth it once sorted

Anne,

as I promised I have installed Vista SP1 RC on my PC and tested it with DesktopX. Yes, it works when UAC is turned on... And this is a big progress!

But I don't want see and(or) use this service. Its much irritates me!

When UAC is turned off any gadgets/widgets as well as DesktopX Builder are not work. The problem is in DXAxHost.dll that Stardock should solve much soon if they really want that people used DesktopX on Vista (because these people hates UAC like me).

Best Regards.

Hey my UAC has stopped working...Like it has vanished or something.
I'm using the new Kaspersky Internet Security and it's gone! So is the spam and spyware with of course viruses too. WOW I really like that.
As for DX - had that problem too. So now I only use gadgets made with the new SDK gadget maker from Microsoft. Found all kinds of bugs in the way the gadgets are presented in the z-order with DX.
Oh and yes I run Vista SP1 version 744.
Just kidding UAC is there - I just never use it no matter what the reason - since I have the new Kaspersky. It's got to be the best security program I've used to date.

Daygo - if you have installed those new pieces of hardware... it would be in your best interest to reinstall the OS completely from scratch and make sure you have all the drivers for the new hardware up to date.

Good luck and the new Kaspersky is user friendly - but can be alarming - with confussion.

Yes. This is one of the possible ways to get rid of problems with DesktopX gadgetd. I have tried this SDK too. Unfortunately this tool allow us to make only the simple gadgets for Vista Sidebar and nothing more...

So I uninstalled SP1 (I'll never more use the prereleased service packs on my PC!) and will wait while Stardock will finish DesktopX 3.5. But now all of my old applications created with the previous versions of DX are work on Vista.

I don't know if it still works, but here is what I did with older versions of SP1

Workaround (you will need to have access to a RTM version of Vista to copy a dll)

1. Enable Dll/Com redirection
Add a DWORD key in the registry and set it to 1: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options!DevOverrideEnable

2. Reboot for the change to take effect

3. Copy oleaut32.dll (windows/system32) from the RTM install of Vista to the DesktopX installation folder

4. Add an empty .local file for each exe to be redirected (typically, DesktopX Builder.exe, DXWidget.exe, DesktopX Helper.exe)

Ex: to redirect DXWidget.exe, create a new empty file named DXWidget.exe.local

For standalone widgets, it's a bit more complicated as they are first extracted to a temp directory, but you might try to put the files there.

I Agree. We can find a few ways to fix DX bugs. But only on our own computers.

There is one problem. We create widgets/gadgets/themes etc... and upload them here for other people.

I'm sure that a lot of these people are only a PC users who doesn't know nothing about registry, dll(s) etc... They want only download some thing from WC, apply them on the desktop to have a pleasure. Why they must study how to correct a problems with DesktopX?

So I think that we need be patient and wait for new version of DesktopX. At least I stopped all of my new projects...
