What is this game like?

This question goes out to all the people who have tested Sins. I have reading these forums and this game does look like its could be what i am looking for a while now. I am still a bitt torn though if i should pre-order is or not and that is why this is actually a two part question:

1) how would you best describe this game, a Mix of Homeworld(loved it) en Galactic Empires(loved that to) or maybe a little different

2) What is the best aspect of this game especially for a decent(or casual) strategy gamer(i am not a strategic mastermind :( )

Thanks in advance for any input.

long story short (as its 10am without sleep :p)
Heres the gameplay videos from beta 1 to 4. And those are outdated, so expect more goodness :D

The gameplay is nothing like Homeworld,it does not involve micromanaging ships in 3D space or have any story line missions.I would call it 4X lite with lovely looking large fleet battles, but the devs claim in the last few months they have spiced up the 4X elements with a miracle update, whether this is marketing talk or the truth remains to be seen.

A miracle update? Lol...

They've been updating features, adding them, if thats what you mean.

Yes, a miracle update.
haven't you heared that Sins is now a FPS with RPG elements, sprinkled with platform gameplay :p

also, where did that knowledge of storyline missions come from??

As a casual gamer I think you'll enjoy the customization of the game. Being able to choose your player portrait, faction logo, naming your ships and planets, outfitting your capital ships with special abilities, building your ideal fleet composition, choosing who you want to ally with, trade with, and complete missions for, who you want to place bounty on, designing your own map, etc :)

(edit) I forgot to mention, if you are not the competitive type, you may also enjoy teaming up with a friend to take out the AI. In the latest build they are a real challenge.  You may like to start the AI on 'easy defensive' then as you improve your skills move him up to 'hard aggressive'.

wait, personality settings? why not include 'easy french' for the real noobs and 'clearly cheating' for those who need the extra difficulty?

"easy defensive?" "hard aggressive?"

Looks like the comp's behavior will be more controlable in the final. :)

'tis what I meant. Sounds sweet. I can't wait till I can play against a team of seven 'hard berserk' opponents and be buried under the numbers.

One of the best features is the intuitive and personal "feel" of the game. Its functionality is unparalelled. Hard to explain....its just that everything does what it feels like it should do. It has all the options you want. After a few times is more of an experience then just playing game. Like when playing chess, are you really into moving the pieces and placing them on the board. Its the stratagy thats grabbing you. Thats how sins is, it's immersive. Your not worrying about what to pres or how to do whatever you can just play.

There's no campaign mode, but there are scenario maps (I think close to 30 now).
