Object dock causes remnant of Start Menu to stay on screen until a window refreshes it

So I have Windows XP (downgraded from Vista). I reinstalled Object Dock 1.9. Now everytime I am at my desktop and click on the start menu and release a 1 inch remnant of the start menu stays on the screen until I open a window that causes a screen refresh. Any ideas here?
