Bill Gates' speech marks finale of an influential era

When Bill Gates winds up his speech tonight at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, it will mark the end of a remarkable era in the personal-computer industry.

This will be the Microsoft chairman's ninth consecutive kickoff address at the giant confab, his 11th since 1994 - and by many accounts his last.

I may be the one of the few fans of Bill Gates left in the world. I have been one since he put out his book "The Road Ahead". I think he's done great things for the world of PCs, and if he does decide to 'step aside', it will be tough for MS to fill those shoes.

I have to agree with you that he was very successful at starting a (maybe great) company, but he's not responsible for the bad things that go on. Also he's not a rich person keeping all his money, infact he's spending money just to use more of it for good purposes.
