MyColor Gadget Cannot Be Removed from Taskbar

I recently purchased the Iowa State University theme from MyColors and I expected a typical .theme file. Instead I received some scaled down versions of the OD applications. Once I waded through the files, I was able to install the theme and its gadgets. My problem is that I would like to remove the weather gadget from my taskbar. Unlike widgets, there is no menu option to remove it from my taskbar. I tried to import it into my current DX theme, but DX3 did not like the file format.

My primary question is how do I remove the weather widget from my taskbar? I still want it running on startup but I don't want it taking up space on my taskbar.

Why can't I import this gadget into a DX3 theme? It was made with DX Pro so I would assume that DX3 could handle it.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

I can answer part of your question: gadgets are designed to be standalone .exe files, and they may be sold as commercial products (which is one of the reasons for the big price difference between the standard DX that comes with ODNT and DX Pro). For this reason, you can't load a gadget created by someone else in DX Pro in your DX standard edition and edit it like a widget; otherwise you could theoretically repackage it as your own and make money on someone else's work. I'm not saying that you personally would do that, but that's the rationale.

Also, MyColors themes are not typical DX themes (.theme) or premium suites. The MyColors brand was designed with the person who is not an Object Desktop subscriber in mind, so the themes include runtime versions of WB, IP, and some standalone gadgets. As of this writing, it is my understanding that ThemeManager and the MyColors software play well with each other.

I know this was only somewhat helpful, but if you email Stardock support, I'm sure that one of the MyColors team can help you do what you're trying to accomplish.

Unless it is a MyColors specific thing, I am not sure why the gadgets would show up on your taskbar. I have no MyColors themes but the premium suites I have by Stardock Design that include gadgets that have no menu options for accessibility, system tray, taskbar or none, do not show on my taskbar or in system tray.
I have the Winter Wonderland premium suite, which is also available as a MyColors theme. The gadgets with it have no menu options and thus do not show on taskbar or system tray. I can't see that Stardock Design would do it any differently for the MyColors themes.

Warreni: Thanks for your reply. I figured out that the MyColors themes are not typical theme packages. I still think that the installer should check for OD before installing the runtime versions of the programs. As for the gadgets, I understand the rationale behind a gadget, but Stardock should include options to remove the items from the taskbar and systray.

Cavan1: Thanks for the reply. I haven't tried the Winter Wonderland theme that came with my purchase of the ISU theme. I have moved all of the themes and gadgets to the appropriate OD directories and I will probably remove the MyColors apps sometime today. All I really need are the theme files and gadgets.

I am going to contact Stardock's technical support and inquire about the gadgets and why my logoff background does not show for this theme.

Thanks,
Mark
