Stardock Central Error 1001

Connection Error 1001

After extensive searching on the Internet, I still have not found out why Stardock Central gives me "Connection Error 1001."

I just purchased ObjectDesktop today. This is the first time I have run SDC after installing it. I entered my Stardock.net account information into the form and clicked "Next," but then I got Connection Error 1001. I don't have any firewall programs that would interfere with SDC (I have Norton AntiVirus and some Norton Internet Worm and Spyware Protection, but I have already tried disabling those).

My computer is on a home wireless network, meaning this computer is connected to the Internet wirelessly. I tried installing and running SDC on the computer on my network directly connected to the router and the Internet, and SDC worked there (didn't give me errors for connecting to the server). I don't think that accessing the server over the wireless network would keep SDC from connecting to the Internet.

Anyone have any ideas why SDC wouldn't be able to connect to the Stardock server?

Thanks,
Electo

Looking at that article, it seems like that person had already installed and run SDC before. This is the first time I've run SDC. I also don't have any firewalls on my computer, and that is what kept that guy's connection from working.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

End of quote

I'm sure you've already answered yourself there ;) 1001 errors are usually network related

Hmm, has a thought...

Have you got TCP/IP set to auto? You may need a static address.

Run ipconfig /all  on your networked machines and post the results here. Don't worry about security, they will all be internal addresses only. I'll see what I can come up with.

9/10 it is simply a cannot reach the internet. Any security software at all?

Sorry that I never got back to reply... but I did eventually get it to work.

However, I'm not exactly content with the method that took to do it, since I might not be able to do it again after a reformat or a disk crash :NOTSURE:. I just chose that I would enter my information later and sort of ignored the messages that it gave me. It then loaded the main application window and seemed to be able to connect from then on.

I have no idea why it wouldn't have worked at first because I don't have any firewall software installed. I only have virus protection software (Norton AntiVirus 2007).

Oh well, it works now. Thanks for the input, guys.

I had a very similar problem, trying to get Stardock Central connecting to the internet and despite the fact that I had no firewall whatsoever I was unable to establish a connection.
I then realized that SDC adapty the Internetoptions from the Microsh*t Internet Explorer Which i have never used on that System (using Mozilla Firefox). I went to the MIE-Settings and fixed the proxy and voilĂ , works fine now.
