Bugs, etc

Just a couple things:

1. In large galaxys, often there are planets in which the ships become "invisible" when you zoom in. It's like all you can see is background texture, but the ships are still there and acting as normal. I'm sure you know this.

2. Also, I'm reinstalling now because I just started a game where it was auto-placing my structures. For example, I could build a defense platform and as soon as i clicked build, it began constructing in a location apparently chosen at random. It was the kind of thing that made me thing I had accidentally turned on scroll lock or something. But I restared my computer and had the same problem.

and... any word on the date of the next release? love the game.

you don't need to restart. all you did is hit "K" on accident which turned auto-placement of structures on, hit k again or just click the button to the right of the portrait display, its the top button. This comes in very useful for placing structures like hangars, trade station, and refineries, that you don't really care where they are located.

Yup -- random large and random huge maps are broken, the devs apparently "went to far" on some kind of optimization.

Probably February.

Hey Dwny197!   Thanks for the report.

1) Can you describe what you mean by invisable a little further. Do they disappear or are they translucent?  Do you see this as they are being built, or in hyperspace?  Do you happen to notice if someone was using an ability on the ship that went invisable?

2) It sounds like you have autoplace structures on.  There is a button in the bottom right action grid...to the left of your main actions, above the ping button.  It looks like 3 little squares, with an infinity symbol underneath. Simply turn this off and your all set to place manually.

See ya around :)

ok.... so i've:

1. restarted
2. reinstalled
3. unplugged mouse and keyboard
4. turned off and cut off the power supply
5. pulled my hair out

it's still placing my structers for me. i'll keep you posted.

dude... i can't believe you're up so late and responding to posts. this is why i'll pre-order every Stardock game. I'll try your advice on the auto placing. but to elaborate on the invisible....

i can see the ships in hyperspace, but once in the system they only appear when i zoom in and zoom out and find the right, very subtle, setting. but even when i can finally see them, i can't see and weapons fire or interaction with the defending fleet. usually it has a red cast to the image. anyone else have this issue?

Did you try turning off the "autoplace" feature yet? Thats whats going on -- there is a button on the UI for it, exactly where the dev described it as being.

you basicaly, needer to clicker the button somewhere in the bottom menu. when you select your hw planet, on the bottom there should be an option to turn auto placement on or off. if you put it off, you can build your plats or research structures any place around the gravwell of the planet.

umm... why does my version still says v.5.0? i've uninstalled the game and still keeps giving me 5.0 when people already have v.5.1?

need assistance "sorry this was off topic"

SDC has gotten way screwed up somehow :D (With all the star dock people off on Christmas break, -- glares are Yarlen -- in theory anyway, they don't have anyone that can fix it).

For the invisible ships (and structures) bug (if it is the same):

if one star system "overlaps" with another there seems to be some z-ordering, so one is on-top of the other. This way all icons and informational overlays for the star system below are not rendered (too much optimization i assume) - if i zoom fully in, everything is just sitting there and working - just quite hard to select or to keep track of (gotta outta myself here - i use selection based sideband all the time :) )

Hope this helps, sadly no savegame for this around. In case it is gfx (driver) dependent: using nVidia 8600GM (laptop)/nVidia 8800GT (desktop) with latest official drivers here.

Possible solution: make sure the star systems can't overlap in any zoom mode - increase the minimum distance (and i hope its checked against all other star systems ;) )
