Upgrading?

I recently purchased Window Blinds, but am now considering an upgrade to Object Desktop. Do I need to uninstall Window Blinds before installing Object Desktop and if so, can I save the themes, etc. that I already have? Thanks for help, I'm a real newbie.

angus1949 I did exactly that about 3 yers ago and haven't been sorry for it. I didn't uninstall WB when I did and had no problem. The link below is to the WinCustomize Wiki page for Object Desktop. Towards the bottom of the page is a tutorial Installing Object Desktop 101. It should answer your questions.

You don't need to uninstall WindowBlinds when upgrading to Object Desktop. OD will automatically detect the version you have. You will also have access to newer versions though Stardock Central.

When you install Stardock Central, and you select Object Desktop in the left pane, you will see two checkboxes at the bottom of the right pane. Check both of these and you will receive all pre-release version of the apps you have, plus, you will auto archive the older version should you not be happy with the current beta version.

Don't worry about being a newbie, there is always someone here 24/7 willing to help. If there's anything you need, just ask  :)

Well you got your new subscriber and some of you were right...having a couple of problems. Every component of OD installed fine except for 3. Window Blinds Update downloads and then just sits there in the "applying install actions" phase. OD Premium Skins installed a folder but only contains: install.dat, odpsk_rebuildlist.exe and premium skins readme.txt. It also get to the "applying install actions" phase and just sits there. OD Premium Suites installed a folder but only contains a readme.txt file. It also just sits during install phase. SoundPackager is installed but keeps showing the install button in the main list for OD. None of them will let me cancel the installs either. I've tried restarts and shutdowns, nothing seems to work. Any help out there????

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this...still learning...I'm old so it's slower for me :-).

Did you have the trial version of WB installed before installing OD, if so did you uninstall it first, this is a must do. Also what version of Stardock Central is installed, current is 2.49.510 build 162 (help, about Stardock Central), if not current, Tools, Settings, General, Auto Update, I have it set to Check for any Stardock Central (Beta/Release) updates.

Cavan,
I have the current version of Stardock Central. I bought the WB and installed the version they linked me to in my confirmation email. My current version of WB is 6.01(build 40 x86).

That is the latest XP build but all but one of the dates from your system info are off, open Stardock Central, select WB, uninstall, reboot, reinstall thru Stardock Central. When complete repost system info.

Cavan,
Well I did as you instructed. Things have changed. Now I have WB 4 & 5 in my list as well as 6. I ran the update for 6 again. It's been 15 minutes now and the "applying install actions" area at the top of the page is still active so I threw caution to the wind and cancelled and opened WB. New Version 6.01(build 42 x86). The version it was trying to update to is 6.01[b].106. Now I am also being asked for activation again. Here is the new sys info copy:

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 6.02 (build 42 x86)

WindowBlinds has not been activated correctly on this PC. Please activate it from SDC.

If you have already registered OD in SDC, Tools, Register Products, then right click on WB6 in OD apps list, select Activate Application. If you have not registered OD with serial provided then do that first.

The date look better for all but one "Wbui.dll 2007/12/01 16:43:05" this one is off according to dates from my system info.

Everything is activated okay. I reverted to my original version of WB for now and things seem to be more stable. I still can't update the Icon Packager, but it's an [RC] anyway so no big deal. I am a little concerned about system stability with some of the themes and visual styles I've tried. I'm running this 22 inch monitor in it's native resolution of 1680 x 1050. Could this cause any issues?
It's going to take me quite awhile to check out all of the parts of this program so I'll probably be back from time to time with other problems.
Thank you very much for your help and keep up the good work, I'm sure a lot of us out here need it. :CONGRAT:

Icons and WB skins should have no impact on your system at all.

If you are still having problems with programs not updating, having incorrect files etc. It may be worth removing OD altogether using the ODNT Zapper LINK This will remove every last trace of OD from your system - including skins, so be sure to back those up first.

If there's anything else you need, just let us know.

If you are still stuck, Seabass and the other support guys are due back at work in a couple of days. They are always eager to help.
