Well, the answer is...(dramatic music) PQ 32 planet(sound of thunder)
Too bad I didn't had time to build it up.

Thats one of the problems with high PQ planets. By the time you actually build 20+ tiles, it doesnt really matter.

"We are Grey. We stand between the darkness and the light."

If you're evil, the good races will hate you. If you're good, the evil races will hate you. Neutral you're in-between. They won't like you, they won't hate you. Perfect to stay out of harm's way.

In Dread Lords, I usually get two or three PQ32 planets, but in Dark Avatar, they're class 29. It doesn't matter what alignment you're playing, it's just neutral doesn't have to terraform to get them. If you pay for the buildings, you can build one in 28 turns so they're always useful to me.

You're right, but neutral races dob't have to wait for the planet to terraform, and don't waste time on resarching terraforming techs, and that gives neutral civs an advantage. Small one, but still an advantage.

You can build th Orbital Terraformer, that will do the same thing as being neutral, it just takes a few turns to build. This is very useful late game when you take AI planets and they never researched some terraforming techs.

If you are neutral you still have to research the tech for those tiles to be useful, well in DA you do, in DL i think you didn't.

Actually the biggest benefit that being neutral gives is the 10% *approval* bonus. Unlike a *morale* bonus an approval bonus is not depreciated by a planets "base morale". The 10% approval bonus is equivilent to about a 15% morale bonus for planets with a pop of 13B and a 25% morale bonus for planets with 20B. Plus you get this bonus as soon as you research Xeno Ethics.

For the equivilent bonuses to being evil, once you've researched Xeno Ethics you still have to research Good and Evil plus Concepts of Malice and then build a wonder or two (MCC, ASC) before you begin reap the benefits of being evil. In the meantime you're a pretty tempting target for all those goody two shoes races out there. Don't get me wrong, I think the benefits of being evil are much greater than being neutral, however the benefits of being neutral are significant and not to be ignored. It's good that really gets the shaft.
