System tray interactive icons?

Hello, is there a way to make systray notification icons that change for a certain state? Such as the volume indicator, the network indicator, battery meter, etc.

For instance the icon for my network connection (Vista) will show a globe when I have internaet connectivity and no globe (just the 2 PCs) when there is not internet, and it will show an X when the cable is disconnected. And the volume icon would show an X for mute...

I am able to change the icons but they are static and do not change. thanks.

I assume you are using Object Dock?

At least for Object Dock you can easily change the icons but not running indicators. However I can put this down as a user request to the developers if you like.

Custom animated systray icons?  That'd be hard.

Need to have hooks into whatever system the oginal icon is reading.
Need custom icons with matching "animation"

For those types of systray icons, I use the 'Show original icon in corner' option. Not a perfect solution, but it helps.

I do the same. Though now I have a dock that is only the systray icons. Then the full "real" dock that runs the rest. I found this works very well.

I just finished programming a Network Activity Docklet. It's still in beta and is ready for testing.

Download it from my site if you'd like to try it:

I am looking for an artist to do graphics work for this and make it pretty. Any graphic animation ideas for it would be great. The artist will be mentioned along with me in the final docklet. I reworked a stock icon for this one for a test.

This beta will work up to January 1st, 2008, then stop functioning. The final will be free and always work.
