Just do it!

If only a single person who'd really enjoy the hard work from you, it is certainly worth the uploading/packaging time. The motto is quite simple; If you don't someone else will or might take away the "slot" - if you like.

As an aside comment, i HAVE to share the following with you...

I am actively modding two packs as of now and for the next weeks & months ahead. And so far, it's been great. I do make some progress while assembling the basic re-sources stuff like images and other assets.

1) CSH (Compendium of Super-Heroes)

- Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Ironman, Hulk, X-Men, Fantastic 4 are pretty much done for the Portraits/Trade screen and Logos... gotta reach a tentative main list of 10 to comply with default "principles".
- Minors are designed & purposely intended to be a sort of blink to other modders here; NCC-1701, UFO(Tv-show), Spectrum (Capt. Scarlett), Klingons, Borgs, Ferengis, 1-2-3-4-5... Go Thunderbirds!, Cosmos-1999 (Moon Alpha base), Grievous, Rebels, Vader, Maquis, Empire, Romulan -- you get the picture!

- At least, 5 new Parties; Neo-Fascist, Capitalist, Illusionist, Antagonist, Anarchist. Numbers devised accordingly and probably balanced... i have yet to test some of their effects.

- A few movies (maybe more!)... with slick & fast models that represent more "obviously" angry/neutral/happy status of the races. Huge amount of work necessary to overlay Gif animations on Stills.

- If i get the time, i certainly will create a dedicated ship for each classes and all races and an extra bonus behemoth framework. But, this is the most tedious part of anything.

and...

2) X-WORLDS (Based on X-Com, TFTD, Apocalypse, etc)

- with Races like X-Com, Sectoid, Snakeman, Muton, Floater, Sectopod, Ethereal, Apocalypsi, Aquanaut, Magnetic, DeepOne, Biodrone... the list goes on fovever!

- Same procedure for the rest as mentioned above.

So, you see... i DO those for myself ---and--- others... and i really don't mind if nobody cares about it.
I'll be proud of the work anyway.
If only to pinch my flesh and say... yup, i could do it.
And now that i have DA istalled, it will even get better before worst.

Thus, i must repeat and insist... ***DO*** your stuff.

Hey, foxthree, ya're gonna try beating me to it, are you?
No way, let's see if i can upload somethin' here - soon!

Let's compare notes, kay?

-- A fully loaded directory filled with thousands of pre-made pics and a whole set of xml definition files done, in my case. What about yo?

Nothing like fairplay competition between two friendly modders, i guess.

The 1000+ is the sum of years of patience and stuff gathered and maintained as resources on IN/CD rewritable DVDs. "Precious!" is some familiar term in such a case. Not a ring but totally awesome libraries available when necessary, at the click of a mouse. Anybody serious about graphics will never have enough of a lifetime to glimpse at the tremendous collective works of REAL artists - including me.

All i know is that if you intend to make your own X-Com mod version i'll be the very first (or single person out there, Hi-Hi) to take a look but to be honest i feel it's a cheap shot (relatively speaking, and no offense intended) against mine.

Ah, the joy of creation and the powers we're all given by talent. I should apply the motto i've given you above to. So ----

Eh- I'd be glad to, but since i will also get my hands dirty in the ship design department myself... i wouldn't count on it, if i were you. In fact, i was just about ready to ask you or anybody else the same question and/or for some "structural" advices, hints on optimal benching, overall estimations, etc.

I first planned to realize a single "symbolic" (but, functional enough) ship for each races. But i doubt i will refrain from developing a whole fleet, specially with the wild and fantastic defaults of the original X-Com titles; namely - Skyranger, Avenger and the slicky cyan/lightblue squared like stacks of the entire Alien Armadas!
Just the TFTD's Scouts, Abducters and Dreadnaughts (terrific browns and wooden beams!!) are an absolute MUST, if anyone wishes to claim that their work is -somehow- the result of truly accurate modding.

What i think is another very important thing to add, will be the planets themselves. The Geoscape of X-Com may be a bit too low-res for some people, but to remain faithful to the franchise, i will probable transfer most textures & crank out a special Earth with square pinky bases and red dotting Ufos (i may have to use some clouds overlay file) flying on it. It will feel like X-Com. Be exactly like it, if i have my way.

So, i've got plenty of work to do. I'm not there yet, but i will - eventually.

Zyxpsilon: Looking forward to your mod. Not sure about using the original planet textures though. You might be better of using the current game ones with just your stuff added. TotA already has pretty hi-res planets, if you just replace some, it may look weird compared to the others.

foxthree: No offense, but I wouldn't try any mod of yours. If just took 2 minutes to write your posts with proper punctuation... You're giving off the feeling like your mods are just as rushed and unfinished. A good posting style is important for advertising your mods, and Zyxpsilon does that a whole lot better.

Yup, i've read a few posts (and the official journals) about this fact. Although, i only own DA (for now), i would have to comply to its features. And unless i get TA also, i probably won't have any of my Mods "versionned" upwards (is that a valid word! ).

It looks to me though that the new way to represent planets will allow much leeway into designing. As long as the code itself still provides customization features, i'll certainly do my best to adapt concepts and graphics while maximizing the potential. 95% of work is sweat, talent does the rest. But, since i'm still at the early stages of some gameplay analysis (ex; abilities fine-tuning for Races, newly added political parties impacts) for balancing reasons the entire mod processing should follow my pace.

Compiling the Portraits/Trades and individual Logos is, to the contrary, a simple matter of fiddling with some "official" X-Com graphics (which is almost easy) to garner a whole bunch of resources. Building fleets of ships requires minimal good technical knowledge of the shipyard and of the templates/styles/xmls structures. After all of that, packaging a coherent group of items with some degree of accuracy and an overall feeling of uniqueness. In the case of X-Com, it will be quite simple since the original artwork IS already great. I'd become only an intermediate that converts elements into GC2-DA/DL proper formats.

In fact, the sneakpeek of CoSH is already pretty much final in its current shape, uploaded and pending for approval. Some files inside the zip remain to be added, that takes time.

At least, i make some progress. I would enjoy a faster pace of development... but, ya know, the Turtle still won the race against the Rabbit (Legendary French proverb by De Lafontaine!)
