@Soul Sole:  Well...I think what really matters is the attention...and proper policy.  I'm guessing you didn't go into Utah pushing abortion rights?  I think any politician of any party can win any part of the country when done right.  The Kzinti Empire thread is not the place for me to go on a rant about how since Reagan the politics in the US have been Us vs Them crap which only leads to division and paranoia.

Politics should be a limited topic here, as long as people dont start abusing each other, and it doesnt become the focus of the thread, then its ok.

So....here is my prediction for the election tomorrow.

I feel pretty certain about most of these, with the exception of Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia, which I think could swing either way.  All available reliable data indicates Obama slightly ahead in those three at the moment, and I'm guessing that a massive minority voter turnout swings them to the democrats.

I think I'm going to have a hard time getting any sleep between now and tomorrow evening...

For the record, I personally separate U.S. politics from TPM.  Perhaps it's just that I'm good at compartmentalizing, and considering that McCain, Obama, Palin, and Biden do exist in TPM, it may not be a distinction that many are able to see, but if you try, you can run a Republican candidate on Democrat issues, or a Democrat candidate on Republican issues-even in a 41 week game-which, to me, makes a large amount of difference.  As accurate as the game may be in terms of simulation given raw factors, the player can (and does) change those raw factors such that any "predictions" ingame based on the results of any particular election are for all intents and purposes invalid in the real world.

To summarize: It's just a game, and I don't see the need to argue about real politics when talking about the game.

I hope that Obama wins, I really don't trust the Republicans after what's happeed durigthe last 8 years. That's all I have to say about politics.

We were above 30mil briefly (for half a day), but with the depreciation that takes place during the afternoon update, we dropped just below again.  I'm just about done with another huge map common-habitable Swindle game, which will come in at 470k+ and push us back above 30mil.  I'll submit that sometime late tonight.   FYI, the Metaverse updates twice a day, between 2-3 o'clock, AM and PM.  The AltMeta updates two times a day at 12, but lately its been really erratic and incomplete more days than not.  Both the Kzinti and the ToE are often missing a large portion of their score, so I would not call it reliable any more.  The current Kzinti Empire AltMeta score of 56.7 million is correct though.  This is the highest any empire has ever had for an AltScore!

Same here Seth.  The last 8 years have been pretty bad in a lot of different ways.  I'm 95% certain Obama will win, but still I'll be glued to the TV/internet for the next 24 hours, hoping for the stray shreds of additional certainty.

I'm about to start building military starbase arrays, so I anticipate several days of drudgerous military buildup. I guess I'll find out how effective the array tatic is in ToA........

Hey Kp, is that map on a site, i'd like to have a look around that. From my view point, and remember where that is, so my info is limited or at times just plain wrong but it seems to me that it will be a little closer.

Florida and NC are definately either way states, but i would have put Ohio in that group as well. I think the key for Obama might be Missouri too.

While the above is obviously in jest, I still fail to see why anyone would throw their vote away on a third party candidate given the current system.

Hmm i understand your point, does seem like a waste of a vote, but sometimes that can be what is called for, if you feel very strongly against both Dem and Rep candidates.

Me, im hoping for an Obama win, and remember my point of view is as an outsider but another 4 years of what is obviously not working makes little sense. And to me, McCain just seems like a seasoned politician, where Barack does seem like a very nice personable fellow, McCain just really lies very well.

Plus, i think it would do the world good for the leader of the free world to be Black. Racism everywhere needs a good kick in the pants and i think obama is the man to do just that. McCain is arcahic (sp)....

Protest vote. I'd need to use several nuclear weapons to alter who my state's votes are going to. When nothing else matters, voting your conscience is all you can do.

Are you intentionally doing that (not that I mind, it's somewhat comical), or are you perhaps dyslexic?  Or is that just an artifact of the handle I've chosen, as I saw someone else do that once or twice as well?

Well I think the interesting part is he wanted Gravel to be the Democratic candidate, and (I may be mistaken on this), I believe Gravel is still running and on the ballot in a few states, although I don't believe he's on it in sufficient states to win even if he won all of them.

The main reason I'm questioning his vote for Nader is because when I questioned it (bear with me here for a moment), he said that, honestly, he flipped a coin.  He seems to believe that there isn't going to be any major difference between whether McCain wins or whether Obama wins.  While I agree that there are more levels to our government than the President that are important, it certainly doesn't make the position any less relevant.

I guess I'm the only McCain supporter here.  Well, there had to be one, right?   

It just comes down to economics like most everything else nowdays.  In my case, the economics of both candidates suck out loud, but McCain's insurance idea is marginally better than Obama's subsidized plan. I'm likely to be on the losing end of either tax idea so it's a wash there.  At least Obama says I won't see a raise in my taxes, but there'll be a way that they'll suck more out of me and my family.  That can be assured.

I'm admittedly not very enthusiastic about my support for McCain though.  I trust that either candidate would do whatever he could for the betterment of the country.  Almost anything is better than what we have now.  Even Nader.

That's pretty much where I'm standing, too-albeit on the other side of that coin.
