ObjectDock Day 1: suggestions

Just bought OD+. Pretty nice so far. Only had a couple of hours to tinker with it, but here's a couple suggestions for consideration in next versions.


  • Mousewheel flips through them so you don't have to go over to the little arrows.

  • hide the scroll arrows if everything is displayed already

  • Alternate icon size for flyout icons

  • Fix the odd # display. just insert a blank on one end so it will balance. Drives me nuts having 2 things, and it shows 1 with scrolling. This is probably my biggest irritation. I doubt I will use them in the long run just due to this.




  • Straight instead of curved line. parallel would be my preference, but perpendicular would be cool too. Could also slither out like a snake... (and stay slithered)

  • Square blobs. configure WxH limits. sub flyouts can just link out further.




  • The repeat blink drives me nuts. Option to just light & fade off would be nice.

  • Choosing afterglow color would be very nice.




  • Flashlight. Darken everything except moused over object.

  • some sparkly colorful pixie dust... i'm thinkin' the particles pop then fade as pulled slowly towards bottom of screen.

  • faerie trails. a few tiny light blobs weave around then fade on mouseout and jump from icon to icon following focus

  • Pop out. Just move the icon out from the side a tiny bit, no zooming.

As for your last request, OD+ does allow for the tab you hover over to come up in the tabbed docks. On the main page go to: Misc Options and the second choice is to Automatically activate the tab you hovered over. Works like a dream. I like many of you other suggestions to. I just gave up on the flyout menus, they are cool as a novelty, but for a hard working system they just became hard to navigate properly. I would probably switch back if , as you said, they popped up straight.
