Question: Upgrade Ships

Is it possible to upgrade a ship in the shipyard ?
I know it is possible, but I want it somewhat different ...
On the design-screen with all the weapons, defenses and engines from the ship to upgrade?
Now I have to start each time from scratch ...

In the options screen untick 'Remove functional components'. This will stop your ships from being stripped when you upgrade them in the shipyard.
