Preset Games - Selecting ethical alignment

If I play a preset game such as battle of the gods etc. I am free to change my government type from Imperial to whatever I please. However, I seem to have no option to select my ethical alignment or indeed to access the special techs on offer to any of the 3 paths. Can this be done?

The alignment selection screen is only triggered when the Xeno Ethics tech is completed, so unfortunately if you start with it, it never gets triggered.

Perhaps in that case in a future patch it might make sense if that was one of the unresearched techs, like extreme colonisation is now?

That's not so much intended as it is just a result of the scenario not having been updated for DA (In fact, when you play DA it is actually reading it from DL's scenarios folder).

You could always add a check when a game first starts to see if the 'alignment chosen' and 'xeno ethics researched' flags are set, then bring up the dialog right off. Of course, this would require that such a flag existed.
