What's this modding stuff?

Newbie warning

Howdy.
I got SC2 a week ago, and I love this game. I'm interested in getting some new bits for my shipyard, but in spite of looking around on the 'net I'm more confused than ever.

I have GC2: Dread Lords v1.0. Most of the good mods apparently need updated versions plus a "Collector's Edition", which I don't have. What would be ideal is a mod that runs on 1.0 and gives me extra bits, but I have no clue where to find such a thing or, having found it, what to do with it to make it work.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Well, the "Collector's Edition" is in the latest version. What prevent you to update your game?

I'm busy getting the Stardock update program. So if I download the latest patch I automatically have the Collector's Edition? I thought it's a game version you have to buy off the shelf...

The expansion Dread Lords is something you have to purchase, but the updates for Dread Lords are free.

And really, you do not want to remain on version 1.0 of Dread Lords - way too many bugs. Not to mention, mods were not enabled until version 1.2.

If you have a legit (i.e. registered) copy of DL, update it via Stardock Central to 1.5. Then you will be able to use mods, as well as having a stable and enjoyable game.

If you download the latest patch, you will have the ship jewellery that was part of the Collector's Edition.

There were others things in this Collector's Edition, but none that were used by the GC2 program.

I make a typo and if someone posts while I am correcting it I am blocked out.
Stupid.

I should have said:

The expansion 'Dark Avatar' is something you have to purchase...

Now, back to your originally scheduled program.

Phoenix and Moosetek:

Thanks. That cleared up a lot of things.
