Help - cant install WB 6.0 due to write failure?

Hi

I purchased WindowBlinds 6.0. I am trying to install it. I have Windows XP SP2.

Halfway through the installation it says that it can't write files. It is trying to write files to:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\StarDock\WindowBlinds\

Unfortuantely, and I have verified this, the directory \Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents has "read Only" priviledges. I am unable to take off the read only property. I cannot myself create or remove files or directories in this directory. This is single handedly stopping the installation of WB 6.0. There are no other users set up on my computer and I am the administrator so I cannot understand why this is happening.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Can anyone help with this? I don't understand why I cannot make the Documents folder writeable. I can't even access the folder. With this problem I can't installing WB6.0 which I purchased last night. Thanks again.

This may sound strange but it might solve your problem.

Verify that your account is the only one, I know, but do it. If it is the ony one than somehow your account has gotten corroupted. Create a second account with admin previliges. Do not delete the first account. Go to the folder that wouldn't allow you to change privileges. If you can change them then you are good to go.

Then start the install process all over again. If you have any part of WB 6 installed delete it or uninstall it, reboot and start the install process again.

Come back and let us know if it worked.

Philly,

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer. You helped me to figure it out. The whole thing seems odd.

First, I had no other account but created another one also with admin rights. I switched to it and found with both accounts that I could do nothing to \Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\. I couldn't even access it as I was getting "Access Denied" from both admin accounts. I could uncheck Read Only and click apply but when I would reopen it it would be readonly again.

Anyways, what I did next was go to properties, then the sharing options, and turned on folder sharing. I renamed the Shared folder named to Documents. I then noticed that I could access the Documents folder. I tried to create a folder and I could. I switched to my main account and I could access it finally. I installed WindowBlinds 6.0 successfully after that and am now using it and am wowed. Can't wait to download some other ones.

Anyways, looks like that folder needs to be Shared and the shared folder name also has to be Documents. I don't know how my system got this way in the first place. Thanks again.
