Start Menu

Start Menu

I would just like a quick check with our customers if some are still having issues with the Start menu docklet that comes built into Object Dock Plus. There seems to be some kind of inconsistency with this issue and was just curious if you could help me narrow down this bug.

Hi !

I try the startmenue and get this result:

StartMenu helper file was injected but failed to take effect.
Can not show start menu at this time, please try again.

I ´m running Objectdock plus 1.90 Build 537u
I use a ATI Radeon X1950 vid-card on XP-Home SP2

I just can watch another effect: my second docklet don´t show the background
aero zoomer ! I use aero zoomer on my first dock without any problems but on
the second dock it doesn´t appear; there is no visible background .....
other background are working pretty fine.

Is it possible, that you can use one background type only for one dock ??

I don´t think so.

Any suggestions ?!?

Hi,

my startmenu docklet isn't working properly either: I get the same error message as Firebolt111.

The error occurs after the 2nd click on the docklet after a restart of ObjectDock Plus. The first attempt shows the startmenu properly. On the 2nd attempt the error message is shown.

Subsequent attempts yield the "unable to find the start menu" error.

I'm running Vista Basic 64 German.

Has the next build of OD (Plus) arrived already?

Best regards, Lars

I recently installed ObjectDock 1.9 free version. When I tried using the built-in start button, I encountered a problem. The first time I open the start menu by using the button in ObjectDock, it works just fine. The second time, the start menu pops up, but as soon as I move my cursor over it, I get the error message: "StartMenu helper file was injected but failed to take effect.
Can not show start menu at this time, please try again."
Any subsequent attempts to open the start menu just cause the error message:
"Object Dock was unable to find the start menu to show.
Can not show start menu at this time, please try again."

This problem resets itself when ObjectDock is restarted, but it won't let me use the start menu more than once.

Also, when the start menu does pop up, it always pops up in the lower-left corner, no matter where the dock is. Is there any way to change this?

Anyway, I hope you can help. My system specs are:
Windows Vista Business
AMD Turion Mobile Technology ML-37 CPU (2.00 GHz)
2048 MB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X700 Graphics card

I believe that behaviour is typical for the free version.  It was fixed in the Plus but the free fix is still pending.  Sorry.
Hopefully it'll be released soon.

i don't think typical, more quasisemiprevalent for some - been freeloading going on 5, no probs - just don't like where it pops up - prefer to use a start.vbs

I have got 1.90i[b].020 installed. It is the first version I installed (because I registered and didn't bother to install the non-latest version). What I did before the problem first occured was changing the command for the Startmenu docklet to Vistas Flip 3D as I wanted to know whether this command miraculously works on my Basic edition. It didn't, so I changed back. That's when I noticed the error. I also had changed the icon.
I'm running a Turion 64 and Radeon Xpress 1100.

Zubaz is very correct. It is policy that the free version never gets the bug fixes untill the full update is made available. Only until then does the trial get bumped up.

planetLars if you like please start a ticket with us at Stardock support. Also please make sure you didn't install over the trial version since the two do not play well together.

Hi!
Sorry for my bad english, but I'm german. I also got the problem with the startmenu. I installed the newest Version via Stardockcentral. My actualley version is now "Version 1.90 Build 534". I think it isn't the beta, am I right? I want to fix the bug with the startmenu. How can I get the beta Version, or when we can expect the new version of objectDock. It`s really an amazing software!
Thanks for your help.

We are aware of the molten animation menu dissapearing, if you mouse over it you will see the menu again. This is currently being worked on.

I too am still having this core issue (startmenu helper file was injected....) off and on. I had this problem pretty soon after I bought it, back in Nov/Dec timeframe and based on other posts about resolution, ended up installed the latest beta version in order to get it reliably working. I'm now running v1.90 build 537u. I'm on WinXP SP2 with nVidia 7600 GT. What is weird is I'll go weeks without the problem, then all of a sudden it will happen w/o warning. The only way I've found to get the startmenu back is to completely restart my PC which is a real pain. Doesn't matter if I stop/start objectdock over and over, the startmenu will always fail once it fails the first time.

I've got it throwing the error right now, and I don't have any programs running or open that I don't always have on an everyday basis. I've never been able to narrow anything down to something unusual I'm running or doing when it happens...it just does.

Is there even work continuing on Stardock's side to further investigate and resolve this? I'd be happy to help troubleshoot and narrow down what is going on. Is anyone pursuing formal resolution for this issue?

Yes as I said the developers are aware of this situation. I have this issue pretty well documented and a fix is underway. There is no time line on this resolution except ASAP.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm sorry if I was going back over covered ground, but I hadn't seen anything posted with a definitive absolute answer for the purchased version on build 537, and most postings seem to refer to versions in October/Nov, which was before I upgraded. I was afraid all the posts I had seen truly were referencing earlier versions. Thanks so much for clarifying. I'm looking forward to the fix "ASAP" ;)

The problem seems to focus more on XP users. Though I am looking for more info to pin this down for the devs better. If you are a Vista user with OD+ (latest version) having start menu issues please let me know.

What I would need to know is:

Video Card and driver date
Any additional docklets that do not come with Object Dock that are running
Any other skinning software you have running

This can apply to XP users but I encourage any of them to PM that info as I am sure there are a few of them. I might not respond to everyone that replies so my thanks in advance.

It used to work on this machine/setup and somewhere along the way it stopped working.

Hi guys!

My first post here, so... First of all, I'd like to say thanks to everybody who was involved. It's a wonderful tool.

Unfortunately, I'm having the same problems as jswood. And Systray simply doesn't work too.

Running 1.90 535u @ XP PRO SP2.

I'm looking forward for these fixes.

Cheers,

RW

Perfect that was what I was looking for. If you get the same issue with nVidia cards under these circumstances please just drop in a "Me Too" or something. If you manage to get this by any other means than Vista, WB6 animated, Start Menu docklet please post here with your info.Thank you Secret add on: on second thought can anyone with ATI reproduce this?

I have a 8600GT 512 MB and experience the same problem.

Running ObjectDock Plus on XP Pro SP2.

sorry for my english ;) i have XP SP2, OD+ v.1.9 535u and have problem with startmenu. Is here anywhere help with this problem? Is very difficult for me read all in english :NOTSURE: Thanks

Temporary solution to this appears to be the use of the Windows key to bring up the Start Menu. Doesn't give any errors and "resets" in some way the docklet allowing further use. This isn't always valid (although the Windows key can be considered a "trustworthy ally") and personally believe that it's a DirectX related error (can be also connected with nVidia drivers not being compatible with certain DirectX framework used by ObjectDock).

Edit: Oh, sorry Seabass! I didn't read all your posts! Seems like you scored a Headshot right there on the bug! Good work!
