Ships chasing each other at sublight outside of grav well

Just want to let you guys know that bug is still there i experienced it twice in 1 game

1st came a scout, and it decided to go wandering off outside of the grav well at sublight speed... Unfortunetly my hanger defense fighters decided to go follow it. It looked like it was following the phase lane, but it was moving at sublight, and it still showed as being at the world it just left from.

Same thing happened later but this time my garrison fleet was there. good thing i set aggression to hold position (all but the fighters). All the strike craft tried to chase the scout outside the grav well. If i had aggression set to grav well the whole fleet would have followed.

I've seen this as well. It's rather distressing when the whole AI fleet does this, rather than just a lone scout. I've seen an entire fleet engagement happening in the space between planets.

I've seen numerous reports of this but we can't recreate it unfortunately. Please send a save game of it happening and we'll fix it asap

This happened on a custom map i tried out. I am not sure if that would have anything to do with the problem. If not ill send both the map, and saved game.

Just a suggestion from my observation. I think the reason for this is because some how in this build ships have a huge inertia (or momentum). I notice in several instance when I order a ship or a group of ship to attack a target (usually far away), they hit max throttle and charge at the target and a lot of time just fly pass the target by a great distance (if it's a structure) then slow down and turn around.

Could this be the side affect of these U turns?

I had a battle in an enemy's grav well where i see this icon that looks oddly placed, I thought it looked a little high, and I rotate the view and I see what i think was a cobalt light frigate wayyyyyyy up there on the z axis above the grav well. it was probably the width of 2 or 3 grav wells above the planet. I dont know what that was supposed to be. I have not however had the problem of ships slipping too far past the grav wells. At least I dont think i do, if i did i didnt notice.

Ok this is a complicated one. A couple of you sent us save games of it happening (and I thank you very much) but there isn't enough info. We need to see the steps that lead up to it. I'll send a signed Sins poster to whoever can send me a save game that has a ship that is fine but then decides to run between planets without phase jumping. Multi, if you have a save game just before those ships run from the star biham that would be awesome.

Alternatively, I'll accept a 100% reliable way of making it happen.

Can you send the autosave anyways? I'd like to use it to verify the fix (and we can hack around the crash). thx

One way i found this happens quite regualry with is making some a batch of 20+ scouts in a game where you've already explored most planets, hit explore on them all at the same time 6-7 will go explore the rest will just fly out of the gravity well at sublight.

Yep, always happens to me when I do this, too.

I'm gonna go in and throw my experience into the loop

what I did was I modded the game to allow me to make 200 planet universes, after exploring the 15 or so nearest planets I built 4/5 scout ships. I had them go to the next planet (from my homeworld) but they just completely ignored me. they got half way to the planet before I fixed the problem by telling them to go a different route.

this probably wont help you in any way, but at least I get to bathe in a few seconds attention
