Possible Solution to Loyalty Problem in other Star Systems

I have heard that people have been complaining that since places in other star systems are on the low end as far as loyalty goes considering how far away from the Homeworld they are, that maybe there could be a certain structure that you can build in any star that is not your home star. It would sort of be a Star Capital (or HQ), basically it would be a partial version of your homeworld, so that instead of the planets loyalty in another star system be determined by the distance from your homeworld, once you build your Star Capital, then they base their loyalty off of that. Since it is not the homeworld it's impact is not as large as the HW, but it still helps because it would be a place of great importance. But if you do not have a Star Capital then the planets are still based off of the distance to your homeworld. Star Capitals can be built 1 to a star system.

There could even be another sort of thing where it's like trade ships, instead this time it's like courier ships. They are created at your homeworld and at the Star Capitals and they go between each other like trade ships. There could be a system where for each trade ship that docks with a Star Capital (from the Homeworld, or even other Star Capitals possibly), the effect of the Star Capital increases (only to it's full). It could be that the Star Capitals would decrease over time in their ability to influence loyalty (to a set minimal point) and the more courier ships that dock with it the higher the ability to influence loyalty (to a set max point). The idea being that the more courier ships that dock, the more important the Star Capital seems to it's people.

I have a feeling we're not going to see any star related structures... its been talked about for awhile...

A long time ago, I thought stars would be pretty much unused and so I pressed for star related structures. Not anymore. There is simply no need for those type of structures.

Between pirates, making your star the first layer of defense for your star system, anti enemy merchant operations, and random encounters, stars will be seeing plenty of action.

speaking of which I would like to see merchants be a little easier to attack in such a way that composed strikes could seriously compromise a certain enemy's economy.

It could probably be done by lowering the hull health on trader ships by a good bit. It would also make that research civilian ship hull upgrade worth something too, because as is it is pretty close to useless.

i still think they should be star structures, i would love to have a star as a planet and make it a huge defensive static network in its range to help protect form races from other star systems

Let me point out that system capitols existed, but have been removed from the game. As things stand, I'm in favor of giving the devs the chance to release the next patch before we poke our oars in further (Edit: Primarily because I want to prod them into releasing it now, I will admit... but in part because its supposed to come out "really really soon")

Yeah good point Ron. Let's wait and see how things work out in the new patch before we start talking changes.

...Menance061, you would love to have a star as a planet?

There used to be a one-capital-per-system rule in place; it was intentionally changed to one capital, period, to slow down the power growth from taking multiple systems. Putting a capital around a star wouldn't be much different from putting it on a planet; the end effect is the same and that has already been found to be imbalancing.

I personally like the present loyalty/capital system that Ironclad is using. If one guy gets a lucky break or 2 getting/taking an empty star system (while the other players have to fight each other), it doesn't turn his economy into an early uber steam roller.

No, you people misunderstand. I was calling it a star capital, but it is not placed around a star. It is placed around a planet, and there would be one per star system. In the sense you people had for a literal star capital, that would be your homeworld system.

Even so, I still prefer what Ironclad has done with the present penalty on distance from the ONE AND TRUE capital.
