LogonSwitcher 0.8 Technical Preview

It's about time !

I've been sitting on that one for quite some time. It's still not in a good enough state to be called a beta (or even alpha), hence the technical preview. It comes bundled with one logon (by yours truly :) ). The included logon is still a work in progress: stock buttons, no custom sound, no loading animation, etc.

LogonSwitcher

What's missing/not working:

  • Logon editor (won't be in 1.0)
  • No check for image format when applying a logon (images in the wrong format will break the logon UI, resulting in a black screen)
  • Replacing UIFile files is disabled (considering removing support for it as doing it correctly is a lot of work: simply replacing them might be too dangerous)
  • No documentation
  • a gazillion little and not so little UI bugs

Installation instructions:

  1. Extract zip file to a directory of your choice
  2. Run LogonSwitcher.exe
  3. Drag&Drop Nature.logonswitcher onto the program window or use the import button
  4. Click Apply (and pray)

Julien for the uninitialiated, what does this do above and beyond LogonStudio Vista?

At the moment, LogonVista only allows you to change the background. No doubt it will be updated to support other parts in due time. LogonSwitcher has support for almost all the other elements. The included logon only has the startup animation, the submit button & the image "overlay" changed though (and if you want to do your own, you have to do it by hand).

At the beginning it was a little experiment to learn WPF, but I figured others might want to play with it a little.
