I always thought Qnx looked like a fun OS ....particularly the demo way back when that ran from a floppy....

that basically cause your all idiots
Ya right. We're the problem you don't know how to communicate your ideas and can't realize good critique is your best friend.

So is that like pferpaddy wagon, pferpaddy cell or it's a knick-knack paddywack looks like your gonna have to cough up a bigger bone?

Guy throws a little chum in the water and the sharks run all over him. LOL.
"Sic 'em!!"

Somehow I'm betting Bill has more money for lawyers than you do.

You got that right, but his supply of
forst stable beta
will be huge if it ever sees the light of day. Vaporware is always a safe bet --- if I could only get my bank to accept it and pay my bills with it.

And I really must add, although I didn't quote anything from little-whip, her tongue lashings and floggings were superp as always. Go whip!

Aye! Whip tells it like it is. (Hey! Don't point that thing at me!)

It does kinda make 'Damn Small Linux' seem bloated.......

I miss that floppy. It saved me once when I had no way to get drivers WAYY back, but I don't have floppy anymore. I don't even have a 3 1/4 drive on computer anymore.

Judging by his verbal skills, I would say he wasn't thinking much at all. At any level. Beyond that of a 12 year old, that is.

That makes it seem all the more strange to me. I mean, if you think the OP is unarmed when it comes to wits and/or maturity - don't you think it's odd that anybody would want to line up and take a shot ? Let alone join a posse of people doing it.

Of the first 10 replies:
  • One addendum from the OP
  • Four lawyer comments (with humor but not inaccurate)
  • Three posts about the project itself (albeit with humor)
  • One claim that we are idiots and pulling the original post
No one took any real shots until after that.  But if you look, there is actually a real discussion about the project, similar projects and yes, some wit regarding the posters use of English to communicate.

Move along . . there's nothing to see here.

I don't have any axe to grind with any individual - but which out of those initial posts apart from #5 where I.R.Brainiac tries to bring the thread back to something that's workable and then #9 where Boxxi invites the OP to explain are actually posts that you could fairly describe as being supportive or useful to the OP.

Supportive meaning asking for clarification, explaining why ya think something won't fly - maybe offering some lateral options like Gideon does in #13

Sure the OP went way OTT and didn't seem able to make use of those couple of posts. Still, it doesn't take a genius to see why the OP might feel like sh*t. It's not as if he/she didn't put any effort into the initial posts. He/she was probably a little carried away and thought the piece was the entire puzzle, but it's not really a crime in this context.

I just think we could have been a little kinder and a little more helpful. Anyway, not to obsess, so I'm gonna abandon thread and try to follow my own advice.

See that's the way I see it. When someone posts these things, they aren't thinking copyright issues, etc. They're thinking "that's really cool, how can I DO that?"

I think it's in our best efforts to encourage potential young developers to steer them to places where they might be able to implement their ideas.

To the original poster: You had a legitimate question. But you're not going to be take seriously if you delete everything as soon as you get a couple of flames.

Alternate settings and Gideon make good points.  I can agree with both of them.

But . . a thicker skin and more determination is required for any almost any project to succeed.  This poster is missing that.  A little humor can't hurt either.

Could the community been more "welcoming"?  Sure.  But what you got was what is here.  Some jokers, some helpers, even the lurkers pipe in now and again.  No one should have been surprised or offended by the responses.

Could OP have laughed along with the jokers and continued his serious (?) topic?  Sure.  But instead you had a punk throwing a fit, after very few responses.

In the end . . no one is a winner here.  Too bad really.

pferpaddy...this is NOT gone because of closed mindedness! Had your original post been better presented, you may have received better, more positive responses. However, your spelling and grammar was poor, to say the least, and it's most unlikely anyone will take you seriously until you are able to better present your ideas and learn some people skills so as to communicate on a more intellectual & adult level.

You're right. And to show I can give helpful responses, pferpaddy you had a real easy option available to you, I will explain. You posted this, you own it. The very least anyone who posts should be willing to do is take the initial responsibility to get their thread back on track. You could have easily have said "serious responses only" or "serious responses only please" the later being more effective in my opinion. You may then have to refer someone to your request for "serious responses" a second time and that should do it. Anyone trolling or making jokes at that point would easily get a reminder from a Mod. What you did is erased your post without even attempting to take responsibility for directing the thread. The ball was in your court and, had you showed that you understood your responsibility for your own thread, you would have had more support. Believe me I understand responsibility when I see it and I respond accordingly.

If I made anyone chuckle with my responses, I'm a winner, and so are they.

Ditto and me too!

Don't you folks in WC have the option to simply delete off-topic or offensive responses?

Yes, but then we run the risk of invective from posters based specifically in Joe User.

This whole thread could easily be locked or deleted, too, but for thus providing an excuse for others to complain/criticize/condemn.

What I find somewhat abhorrent is the original poster's apparent disdain/indifference towards any respondent, good or bad, on topic or off, by summarily deleting the post/topic.

Forum moderation is a delicate balancing act....between 'damned if you do' and 'damned if you don't'.

Generally what you will see here [on Wincustomize.com] is 'where possible - do nothing'.

Unfortunately, what you sometimes see on JU-sourced threads is aggressive revisionism through edit and deletion....

Yep exactly what I thought. Not even one honest effort on the part of the poster to keep his own thread on track. On his first reply(#10) he deleted his post and blamed everything and everyone except his own lack ownership of and responsibilty for his thread --- which prompted some of my rather tasteful and humorous taunts. Oh well.
Well. That didn't last very long. Even if he's rocking good developer, good English skills is required to talk to English developers.

That would be even sadder if that guy are English speaker too.

you can only delete, not edit anyone else's response.

little-whip ... I meant the thread itself could be 'edited' through selective removal of comment/s, thus altering its whole direction and meaning, not necessarily each individual comment's wording.

As for 'not seeing what I see', I [for a totally unrelated reason] recently checked when I first formally acted as a 'moderator' on the site - and found a 'rejection email' dating to July 24, 2001, so, yes, it's quite likely I have seen things here you may not have.

All site administrators have had [and still have] the power and authority to 'edit' a poster's comment/s, answerable only to the sites' owner/s, and not directly to the members themselves.

On the rare occasion it has been deemed appropriate to do so, though as both JU and WC, etc have matured [as have their members] the incidence of this has diminished dramatically to next to zero, a testament to the careful handling of those whose sole intent was to disrupt and antagonize all and sundry.

The only threads deleted from public view here in the past 6/12 months have been hiccups of multiple postings...where the second to Xth were redundant, or they were spam-bot postings of "Buy your viagra/cameras/meds here...." - things no-one wants or needs....

Viagra is of no use to me....have some difficulty swallowing pills and I usually end up with a stiff neck.
