Would it be simply better to wait for the 2008 version or just get the 2007 with free upgrade to Object Desktop 2008?

The dates of Object Desktop are when a snapshot is taken of the suites at that time.  If you purchase OD electronically then the date is irrelevant as you get all the updates and any new Object Desktop specific software during your subscription period.

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Those are that we get all the good deals on new updates and software for Object Desktop.
And that comes with years of developements from which I must say has been something else.
Or lets say pretty dang good and getting better every year.

Starting with discounts for skins and other new products/software.
Plenty of good support and a very good way of keeping your computer customized too!

Actually there has been so much to say about the benefits here lately... that it's hard to put into words. These people work hard to please you and make the best product/software they can. For whatever year [2007-2008-2009-2010 and even going for 2011 myself for my sub.]

Just having the best is good enough and it is always the best here at Stardock/Wincustomize!!!
Thats a true benefit once you really look hard and see it!

Try it Saint and look on the bright side...

Okay...I haven't used WB in a long time (been using Vista aero), but all this talk of some new skins and improvements in WB6 made me download and try the beta. I'm glad I did!   Thanks to the WB team!

@ Shelbygt_the_Car~!

Last time I checked, you weren't a frog hanging on two beautiful firm breasts.

I know about Object Desktop and all. All I’ve always interested in were Windowblinds, Skinstudio, and IconPackager. Though I only want the above three software, I was thinking of getting Object Desktop and since version 2008 is set to be released in the near future, I was thinking if it would be best to simply wait.

That’s all

Never mind about my previous message. I realized that the reason one can see the edge of the taskbar beneath the sidebar is due to the shading of the sidebar, not any problem with WB itself. It really does look odd with a light colored background however. Any chance for a sidebar background that is completely clear with no shading at all?

For some reason, I still can't get the darn thing to activate. I keep trying, God knows. I ran up to the activation limit, Stardock kindly reset for me, and now I've hit the limit again. When I install, I get to see the wonders of WB6, but hitting "apply" gets me nowhere. Such frustration. Back to old reliable WB5 now.

Not so fast! This happened to me too. I'm running Vista and I just set it to Windows Classic and then tried applying a WindowBlinds skin again. Then it worked. If you're running XP, hopefully it will work on there, too.

So when can we start seeing some Sidebar skins to download? The one that comes with it looks great with Diamond on a light wallpaper, but it's leaving me wanting more.

Natsgm, did you try the windows service registry fix? It's worked for a lot of us today.

Follow PurrBall's instructions here:

Tried the registry fix. Now, instead of doing nothing at all, hitting "apply" asked me to activate. Of course, I can't activate because I'm maxxed out again. If I can get Stardock to reset me again, perhaps this will work. I don't know.

My guess is this will work, once they've reset you. Let us all know.

Things are working pretty well here too. For a beta there has not been to many hic-ups at all. Wish there was more skins. My Grandson loves the Moltens' Start Menu, heck so do I. Thanks!

What for? Heck I got my sub good till 2010 and actually need another yr. to get it to match my WC sub. Which if I get another special as the last one... heck ya I'm gona get another yr.
That would make me good till 2011 and good for win7 if ms completes it on time too!

uhm... there was an update last night that really messed up Leo's shadows and close/min/max

Messed them up how?

There's also an additional shadow around the outter frame when applied.

Until now, the Argos premium skin was my absolute favorite. But after I tried out this new beta, I changed to Diamond. What a fantastic piece of work you have done here! The transparency adjustment in this version is very nice, I only wish there was a way to reduce the amount of shadows as well, without turning the per pixel borders completely off.

Just as a note, after the last update my sidebar changed ok for me.

Astyanax0: It looks like the update of the skin went wrong on your PC.  Find the leo folder and delete the .WB4 files.  Does that help?

Natsgum, I reset your activations. Remember you can save the sig.bin or sig6.bin (in the case of WindowBlinds) and not have to reactivate on that particular OS installation in the future.

That did it, thanks. Didn't even think of doing that

Thanks, Nakor. Unfortunately, whatever's going wrong for me is just beyond my comprehension. I reinstalled -- and just in case, I disabled my virus and firewall programs when I did it -- and it worked perfectly. I saved a copy of the sig6.bin in another folder. Then I rebooted to restore the virus and firewall. And now, WB6 thinks it's "unactivated" again. When I replace the bin file, it just disappears every time I launch WB -- with or without antivirus and firewall. I'm lost. Ironic: I'm usually the guy who doesn't have any problems.

Further investigation: This is fascinating. I tried watching the folder in W. Explorer while I was trying to apply. When I launch WB, sig6 is OK and activation is good, but when I click "apply," rather than applying, it deletes the bin file. This is weird.
