Radio chatter

I would like to see an increase in radio chatter, think "locking on target", "requesting docking permission". Not only when clicking on or ordering a unit.

Naturally you cant have all your units radio but, I was thinking when zooming in on units, that on a certain zoom level, you would hear more radio chatter, not only the usual but maybe also more mundane things like hmm... i dont know flag orders to units around it, and trade ships/fighters/bombers docking etc.

Thoughts?

multi... i should shoot you for your spelling...

but its a very good idea, I just think finding the right balance of noise would be a problem, some people like more, others less. (yes i know that you could have a separate volume slider, but people are lazy and will complain anyways )

also, does everyone speak the same language?

I doubt people will complain. Atm we are hearing not enough sound effects and the cobalt frigate sound effects.... uuurggh

Heh, I was going to post about this a few days ago.

I was thinking that, but I wanted a bit more. How about when you zoom in to a system, like really zoom in you start hearing radio chatter between civilian ships, traders, constructors, refiners. As they go by they could say passing comments about where they have been, where they are going, what they have, possible dangers back from where they came. If things are dangerous they could complain, things like that. Something that would immerse you even more into the galaxy.

Now this is purely aesthetic and should not take priority over anything more important.. likea AI. But it would be nice, after hearing how well the music score fits to the game, or at least the TEC I was hopeful that the immersion value of this game would be amazing.

That is true, but no one is going to be shooting anyone except the noobs

danish is the seconds hardest language

Actually the hardest language in the world is an old Myan dialect that is only used by a few thousand people in lower Central America.

And its not Chinese, there isnt any language called Chinese! There are two dialects spoken in China, and the main one is called Mandarin. And Old Japanese is harder then Mandarin.

But I guess it depends on what your back ground is, and what root langauge your language is derived from.

This is really what i meant to say, couldn't quite put it into words though.

personally i think Cantonese is harder, but w/e, never really learned how to speak it

For the radio chatter, it would be helpful to look at some other games like freelancer, in which there is a few phrases that are always repeated, but usually with the name of the ship or other information inserted in.

I was just playing that at my friends house and I thought it worked well in that game.

I especially like the thought of capital ships giving the fleet orders.

Fleet orders would be cool, and from what I remember the fleet was supposed to have an over all captain.

I dont know if it is a planned feature but it would be cool if once you make a fleet you can appoint a ship in the fleet a captain allowing you further management options then just the simplified movement and attack features we have now. Also an 'aurora of command' that helps ships arround the captain ship fight better woud be cool too.

A chatter option with a volume slider shouldn't be too hard, and it would add so much to us dorks who like pretending we're in the game. The most surrealistic thing about the game, for me, is the lack of refugee ships fleeing a bombarded planet. That little change would make it seem like there were people on these planets, instead of numbers. A second immersion option that I would like (though I understand it could be annoying) would be the construction of civilian structures proportionate to a planet's population. They could be in a small, dense ring around the planet, like warehouses, machining shops, maybe even orbital farms! It would be cool if civilians mined asteroids (that didn't contain metal or crystal) on their own, and you could buy it. It might be more expensive than the black market, but it could increase your planets' allegiance.

The captain ship idea would tie in nicely with frigates and cruisers getting some experience and increased functionality: the veteran ship in any given fleet could be the captain.

The second option I think is supposed to be represented by the amount of space elevators and ships circling the planet, but it would be clever to have more civlian structures.

That would make sense.

Well just to add a note on to the whole zoom thing. I was a little disappointed with the fact you cant zoom right down on to a planet. I know that sounds stupid, but I just like to check out the full details of things. Like what my planet structures look like, or whats blowing up when I bomb the @#$% out of a place.

Oh and, yeah the radio chatter sounds great. Flag ship commands could add a nice full aspect of the feeling of your fleets.

This sounds like an excellent idea to me, comm. chatter would be really cool.
