I have the title of Master, but I have never charged for a skin yet, and haven't made ANY money from skinning. I'm happily skinning the free music player Xion at the moment, and I don't expect to make any money from that either. I've made over 28 Xion skins already, which you can download for free in the Xion section.

If you feel you have the skills to be a master skinner, then why not show us what you can do by skinning Xion....... it's free.

these forums have become nothing more than a place for dickheads to sprout there misinformed views and uneducated opinions, i have had enough. i am going to be relinquishing my subscription because ican't handle this shit anymore. it's not about the software or the work anymore, it's about complaining, bitching and one upmanship, hasta la vista

Don't be so hasty man. A less radical solution would be to stop reading the forum for a while..... things are bound to get better soon!

All you need to do is google open source graphic software; you will find great programs that live up to the $$$ ones. I know because I have a bunch of them. Now trying to learn how to use them is another story.

There is absolutely no correlation between 'Master skinner' status and economic wealth.

None.

No-one is means-tested to determine his or her skinning 'status'.

Yes, you may need [or prefer to] purchase superior graphic software [eg Photoshop], however freeware graphics proggies will get a talented person far further than a $1000 Photoshop/etc will get the inept.

Prime requisite for 'Master' status is ability....combined [as this is also a communityl site] with commitment to skinners and skinning.

If one considers Windowblinds, say, as the pinnacle of skinning endeavour...then it's perhaps interesting to know that skinning it is actually possible with nothing more than the default Windows installed proggies, namely MSPaint, and Notepad.

OK, it would be sensible for a skinner to perhaps work with something other than a 60 day trial of WB....so expect to fork out $20 so you can take your time [and still be able to see the results], however $20 is a heck of a lot less than whatever it is you are using to access this forum anyway....namely ISP, Computer, etc....

no one will became a Master in one day..., you will need to give some skinns, help alot of people., wright articles(articles that help others)...., and be a good guy..., wait at least 3 years(lucky if u get a Master status in 2 1/2 years) and then see if one of the Journymans will like to recommend u as a Master....

or...

make alot of skins, make alot of good and constructive comments on others skins and articles.., became a good friend and finaly...., wait 4 years....

nothing is for free..., not even to became a master...

...btw, if you do an error(like be an idiot with someone by posting useless and totaly out of line comments) your member status will drop.

..life is cruel and at this point you should know that

It's funny how different people can be. You wants to be master. I just don't care. I just make whatever I feel like and upload them.

Tapeman2: i bet i would be a master skiner if i didnt have to pay $150 to make the skins

So what is your point ? You want to skin to make money only ? I suppose if thats your mission in life you best get started making skins and make sure you hang out in the forum 24 hours a day because there are lots of members that have been here for years and make skins they share freely and haven't been promoted beyond Apprentice.

Your question was answered by Jafo and Frogboy..but, unless you enjoy making skins to share without being compensated then its pretty pointless to even bother.

PS: I do not have any fancy graphic programs - but I do have Object Desktop - so if you want to learn skinning you do need to at least purchase the software so you can skin more than one application.

I know the point you were trying to make, but take a look at this sentence again.

I'll vouch for that!

Oh, yes....doh.

Once Master status is achieved there may be an improvement in one's economic wealth, certainly the potential is there....

I WAS referring to the fact that there was/is no prerequisite for becoming a Master that has anything to do with a person's financial position.....

Darn these pedants.....I'll need to spray....

Being a master skinner is a Honorific title earned by those who dedicate time and energy to the community of skinning as a whole. Were talking years and years of dedication, not 15 min and 3 skins...

to Be honored by WC by being promoted to Master status, is a great achievement. not just a way to make cash...the ability to be compensated (selling master skins) is a plus offered to those who achieve this status...but is by no means what the title is all about..
