CPU Usage Issue

Xion Crashes Regularly

Hi All,

Just wanted to query on a CPU Usage issue that I have. On the Home Page of the Xion site it says that Xion uses little CPU usage and memory. With that, I agree in part. Memory usage is low, but CPU usage is a whoping 790 - 1Ghz at most times. This only happens when I have a song with a long title, thus causing the track to scroll.

Are you guys having the same difficulty?

Also, after about ten minutes (even when running low on CPU for a change), Xion Crashes by holding up my laptop and freezing it altogether.

I posted this query on the Xion site, but they seem to be empty - so I thought I'd come here, where help is always at hand (I don't know what I'd do without you ).

Any help would be great!

Thanks

I haven't seen that but you might try the usual: different skins, change song title to shorter one, etc
To try to narrow it down maybe to a specific skin, song, or title length.

That generally works - but then I won't be able to listen to certain music, but that's OK I have many other media players for listening to music. I'll still skin for Xion as I really do enjoy it! Thanks

I would say it may be more the skins than anything else. Just tested a few, with my 2.4 gig celeron a basic skin with just scrolling song info would peak at 10% cpu usage, a skin with heavy animation for vu meters (NotofthisEarth) peaked at 60% cpu usage. (playing same song)

It must be my useless laptop then! I have had troubles with the thing forever, although it also happened on the other desktop I used, which runs a 3.2Ghz Core Duo, and 2 Gigs Ram.

Don't worry about it, really.

Thanks for the help guys.

I'm of course digging up an old thread here, but I've just released build 94, which has large improvements to the rendering code.

I'd be interested to know with this new build, if you're still having the same problems.

It's been a while since the last Public Release, but I hope you'll be impressed!

hmmm... I've never had this problem. it ususally uses like 2-3 % of my CPU

There's mention of low cpu usage but comp crashes anyway ,if it were mine i'd look at ram issues or not enough ram as well as background processes that don't need to be running, also changing performance to running programs instead of background apps, a defrag would'nt go astray either but done in safe mode, tho before you do set pagefile to zero, then before restarting after defrag is complete set pagefile to one size so min & max are the same it avoids a constantly changing pagefile size which in turn creates a more defragmented hdd

EDIT: make sure the hybernation box is unticked coz if hyber is enabled it won't defrag properly

With build 94, that should hopefully be 0% :)
