WindowBlinds Fails to Apply Skins

WB won't apply skins but will apply color scheme of skins

Can anyone solve my problem? I am running Windows Vista Home Premium and Stardock Central. I installed WindowBlinds 5.51 from Stardock Central. I got the reboot message and continued to get the message every time I rebooted my system. I had all my anit-virus/anti-spyware and windows defender programs turned off during install. When I click "I'll reboot later" and then go to the program location and double click on WBconfig.exe WindowBlinds loads. When I click Apply Skin on any of the skins WB only applies the color scheme of the skin and not the skin itself. In some cases it will apply the skins wallpaper as well. Any idea how I can get it to apply the skins?

I have the same problem. I made a new post but my problem started out the same way which I forgot to mention in my post.

I have rebooted multiple times and still the same problem. I have uninstalled WB and reinstalled it from SDC and still the same issue. The system won't even let me in until I navigate to the program folder and double click on the wbconfig.exe file. When I attempt to use the shortcut it gives me the never ending reboot message. I heard a while back in a Windows Vista Traning class that there is a Secure Desktop option that can be turned off to allow your software to run without problems, but I haven't been able to find it yet. I think it is only avilable in Vista Ultimate. Why can't I get WB to work????!!!! I have used all the sugestions that others here in this forum have mentioned to fix it, but not one of them will fix the problem. I think the issue needs to be addressed by Stardock.

Copy paste windowblinds information here. You might have the same problem I did. The WdWbload.dll was out of date. I had to go and delete it myself and reinstall WB.

Sorry Ron5, I cannot copy and paste the information you request because I can no longer get into the WindowBlinds Configuration screen. I keep getting the Reboot message. I keep turning off my anti-virus, turning off Defender and rebotting and going to the program location and double clicking on the wbconfig.exe and I get the reboot message every time. If the wbload.dll is out of date then how do I get a new one? I downloaded and isntalled the program from the 6/19/07 update from SDC. You would think they would have the most updated files included in that install. Any other suggestions as to how I can get this to work?

Oh, and by the way. The reason for my wanting to install WindowBlinds on my Vista Premium is because I use Adobe CS2 Suite and CS2 does not skin properly with the Windows Aero Theme. So I'm back to using Windows Basic until I can get WindowBlinds to work properly and then I can use my Windows Vista Skins that I have.

Your best bet would be to contact support directly - support@stardock.com - they will be able to assist you in getting this issue resolved.

I've already tried that last week. They won't or just haven't yet responded.

Thanks. I did actually get an autoreply, but I still have not received any solutions yet.

Read through the autoreply if you haven't - should be instructions there about the next step.

A similar thing is happening to me now, but I'm running XP SP2. It used to work when I had the trial but now it's useless. It switches me from the Windows Classic theme to a slightly darker version of the same exact thing. I've read through the auto reply, but there's nothing.

Open the WindowBlinds Configuration screen and click on View my system information.  Copy/paste that info here.

Should have some instructions about what to do next with respect to further tech support if you haven't yet resolved the issue (usually about replying again with a certain word or phrase in the Subject Line). Haven't used it in a long time so could be wrong.

You say that Adobe Photoshop CS2 does not display properly...?
When you installed it was the UAC [User Account Control] on or off?
If it was on ! Then uninstall both WB 5 and esp. Photoshop after you have turned the UAC off.
CS2 can do strange things to a system when istalled on Vista Home Premium with the UAC on.
I would consider uninstalling SDC after UAC is turned off and reinstalling with UAC off.
Then install WB5 with UAC off and then the Photoshop the same.

With Vista; even turning off a anti-virus program does not completely do just that - turn off!
What anti-virus do you have?

After you have reinstalled you can try and see if the UAC being turned back on will work with your installs. If not you will have to leave it off...

But CS2 should display correctly with Vista Aero if it is installed correctly!

Also what firewall is running?

You say turn off UAC? How do I turn off UAC in Vista Home Premium?

In answer to your questions, I have AVG 7.5 Free Editon Anti-Virus and I am using Windows Firewall. Windows Defender is turned off.

As for Photoshop CS2, it is the only CS2 program that will not skin properly and this skinning issues has nothing to do with Stardock software.

When I'm using Windows Aero and I have Photoshop running, clicking the menu bar changes the program window border back to Windows Basic while the file I have open is skinned in Aero. The toolbar windows get skinned in both Aero and Basic on top of each other.

Tell me how to turn UAC off and then I will try uninstalling all Stardock programs and CS2 and reinstalling and then I will let you know if it works.

Thanks for the help.

Ok Shelbygt_the_Car~!

Here's what I have done. I have turned off Defender. Turned off AVG Anti-Virus. Turned off UAC. Uninstalled WindowBlinds. Rebooted. Set Windows Vista Theme to Aero. Loaded SDC and reinstalled WidnowBlinds. Rebooted again. Program still won't load past the reboot message unless I double click all the exe files in the program folder and let them do their stuff in the background. Then I loaded wbconfig.exe and it ran fine, but will not allow me to apply anything when I click Apply this skin now.

Windows keeps notifying me of potential security problems with UAC turned off.

Here is what WB 5.51 says my system has.

Microsoft Windows XP
Build 6000.vista_rtm.061101-2205

Your computer has a Windows Experience Index base score of 3.1

Why is it saying Microsoft Windows XP here? It should say this ...

Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium
Build 6000.vista_rtm.061101-2205

Did you upgrade your system from Xp to Vista or is it that you have a duel boot system with both XP and Vista installed?
If it is a duel boot - check to see where the wb config file is located. Which partition?
If not - I would look into why the system see's you are running XP with a Vista build ???
You may have a bad install of vista over a past XP OS which the disk was not properly formatted before the Vista installed. Thats not a good one either.
If so then you will have to reinstall your Vista. This time do a complete full format of the partition or HD you are installing too.
Some quick formats do leave info behind for a Vista install or upgrade and will cause you problems.

I will do my best to try and help you with your problem. Contact me at my email address here
