OD won't launch

Having a small problem with OD on my home computer. I install the program, try to launch it, see the CPU spin for a second, process shows up in process list, then just dies with no errors or notifications. Nothing in the Event Viewer either. Same thing when trying to run from command line. I've run CCleaner on the registry, reinstalled, uninstalled, rebooted, and so on to try to get this working. At work, I installed it, and it ran just fine. I'm trying to convert from YzDock on all my machines but this is killing it for me. Any tips/suggestions/comments?

OS is Windows XP. This is ObjectDock 1.9 Free.

Tried it with no antivirus turned on, same results.

from another post:

Go to start > run and then copy this into the command line:

%userprofile%\local settings\application data\stardock

It will open a file folder. Delete the ObjectDock one. Be sure to save before doing all of this.

that's the cache folder

That folder doesn't exist (I navigated to it by hand, since it doesn't actually run out o f the run box without quoting the above string). OD has never completely launched on this machine and I suppose the cache isn't created until the application actually gets to run. I do appreciate all of the help and hope I can find a solution to this problem.

generic how are you installing OD? via Stardock Central or on the website? If installing through the website are you using a download manager & which browser are you using?

Also open CCleaner...select tools & look under startup to see if it is listed there as well as looking in your programs...startup folder. It should be listed under both.

The original install was from the stardock website (technically hosted on download.com if I remember correctly). No download manager and I'm using Firefox as my browser. One iteration of install/uninstall did involve me downloading OD from filehippo, then updating it through Stardock Central which resulted in the same results. When I get home tonight, I will try downloading form Stardock Central and installing it.

I seem to recall OD not being in the startup folder, but I'll check on that when I get home tonight as well.

OK, uninstalled, ran CCleaner, rebooted, then installed OD from Stardock Central. There is no entry in either Startup folder, OD still won't launch, and there is still no cache folder. I'm kind of at a loss here and wonder if this isn't just one of those weird cases where it's just not going to work.

download and run The Zapper

If object dock is listed check it (and only it) - if it's there and the Zapper finds it, it will clean it out of your system (move any background, icons, etc you want to keep first)

then reboot - run ccleaner (check for issues), then try right clicking ODock in SDC and choosing download and archive (instead of install) - once archived, use SDC to restore it

Sorry it took so long to get back to this, I was out of town for a few days.

I ran the Zapper, rebooted, ran CCleaner, archived and restored and still nothing. This was a seamless process on the work machine, it ran the first time. I'm not quite sure what is wrong with my home machine. I'm sure a fresh install of Windows would fix this, but it is not a route I'm willing to take right now.

when you said the folder didn't exist, did you have 'show hidden files and extensions' checked in folder options?

is YZDock on this machine?
I do have all files and extensions shown. YZDock is on this machine, but it's also on the machine where OD installs and runs perfectly fine. I always make sure it is not running when installing and attempting to run OD.

That's just odd.
I've been running the free version(s) since 2003 with no problems.

gotta be something that's blocking it.

what security you running?

I'm using Sunbelt (formerly Kerio) personal firewall. There are no listings for OD to be blocked, and it won't launch with the firewall on or off. Windows firewall is off as well. This is basically the same setup I have at work where OD is running like a champ. I wish there were some kind of debug log or something where I could track what is actually preventing OD from launching.

Try clearing the cache.

Go to start > run and then copy this into the command line:

%userprofile%\local settings\application data\stardock

It will open a file folder. Delete the ObjectDock one. Be sure to save before doing all of this.

This should clear your issue. Please let me know if you still have problems though support@stardock.com.

Cheers
