HELP. Can't log to site on new PC

kyro, et al.

Last week fired up the new built, AMD Dual-core and XP-based, new PC. All is working OK, game is working OK, but when I am browsing the web site on the new machine, the site will not accept my account/password. This is regardless of connecting via AOL or via IE/broadband provider. Won't even let me sign in via the Stardock browser.

As you can see from this post, from my laptop, which I used originally to register to the GalCiv2 site, my member login and site rights work fine. From the laptop, sign in works fine via either AOL or IE/service provider.

Help me out. You guys are missing some of my best stuff, 'cause usually I don't want to give up the game on big screen to post via the laptop (besides, the wife/son will be on the other if I am on one machine.)

Are you getting any errors or anything? Please give as much detail about what you're doing and what's going wrong as you can.

from laptop (successful)
1) launch IE7
2) type URL "www.galciv2.com" into navigation bar
3) site launches
4) type "dreamrider@aol.com" into "Enter e-mail address or nickname here" field
5) type appropriate password (checked yesterday via Stardock e-mail)
6) after ~5-10 sec, recieve "welcome drrider" message in upper right

from new PC (unsucessful)
1) launch 1E7
2) type URL "www.galciv2.com" into navigation bar
3) site launches
4) type "dreamrider@aol.com" into "Enter e-mail address or nickname here" field
5) type appropriate password (checked yesterday via Stardock e-mail)
6) after ~20-25 seconds, screen refreshes, word "Done" appears in lower left frame of site; Login fields return to default sign-in instructions; no other changes to page.

Same same from AOL on respective computers. New computer has AOL OpenRide client, laptop has Security Edition. If that is having impact, then why problem same when only connected via IE?

Try clearing all cache and cookies on the new machine. Failing that, just go to forums.galciv2.com and log in at the top of the forum rather than via that box on the main page (it's been flaky in the past).

All right, got it.
Feel dumb, too.

For future ref:
Cleared cache and cookies, to no effect.
Then thought to check Privacy settings.
Young friend who had completed the build/load on the new machine (hey, he has an engineering degree in this stuff - and free) had set the IE Privacy to Max/Block All.
After checking the laptop settings (egad! wide open - revised upward), I started backing off levels one at a time.
Had to go to Medium to get the login to work initially, then was abe to raise Privacy back to Medium High.
High setting stopped login on either machine, including the one that had be getting in all along.

For what it is worth, I have NEVER been able to log in to the site using the box at the top of the Forums, even on the machine that was Privacy wide open. I have always had to go back to the Home Page and join from there.

Thanks for pointing my dull wits in the right direction.
