In my experience, you usually don't need to. SDC seems to say that more often than it's actually necessary.

thanx for the quick reply

it's only happened the last two updates though. i was fine before the last two. who knows? maybe it has something to do with running a 64bit os. plus i just added 2gb more of ram... so that could be it too.

i'll post here again if it happens with the next update.

Oddly enough I have two systems that I keep in sync with my GC II updates. My "play" desktop has asked for the reboot the last few times. This is a change; it never used to do this. My laptop has never asked for one. Both are standard XP systems.

it happened again. i updated to 1.60.089 last night and was told that my system settings have been changed and that i need to reboot for the effects to take place.

as per my first post, why? what did it change? the update for GC2 and the heightmaps didn't require a reboot. so, what gives?

i can post my dxdiag if it will help. though i don't think it will.

I think it has something to do with the way the download/install accesses the system through Windows. It be giving off a false signal for the reboot. Nonetheless there has been no problems with this from my end.

yes, i can see that happening once, maybe twice. but for it to happen the last three updates concerns me a little. are you running a 64bit os?

no problems on this end either, that i have noticed. just the reboot thing. but still, i like to keep tabs on what is going on with this system as it is my gaming system, which is clocked to it's full potential. so any wrong (or right) system change, can have a great effect on this thing.
