Object Creation

Hi everyone.
I've decided I want to make an object for my Desktop. If you care to know, it will be a simple shortcut for Oblivion. At any rate, I've found a scripting tutorial already, but I have no idea what program I might need to create the physical apparatus of the object. If anyone could direct me to a tutorial for object creation, I would be most grateful. I'm going to be using DesktopX to use the object, if it makes any difference.
