stupid newb question of the day...

::sighs:: I guess someone has to be the stupid newb...

Ok... So. I actually purchased the software about a year ago, then my schedule went completely galactic apesh!t and I had a break up and moved and changed jobs. Three times. And pretty much forgot about the software until I got an email about some space game the other day. (Direct marketing saves the day... who'da thunk it?)

So, now I'm all excited about the suite, and learning it and getting it running and everything, and I want to get involved a bit and so I create a login and stuffs, right?

And the nickname I want is in use. As is the next one I think of, and the next, and I really just want to play with the apps, so I say "fine, just use my name." and it does.

Fine, right? Except now I can't create a... what? Profile page? Because (presumably) my "nickname" includes spaces. So I make "DevilsAdvocate" into "MsDevilsAdvocate" and go with it.

Fine, right? Except now, posts show the new name, and my little log-in thingy still shows the old one, and I still can't create a profile page or anything (not a big deal for several more weeks, until I learn to make skins and such, but still... I'd like to fix it.)

...And then... I look under the "licenses" tab on my settings and there's, like, 20 or so listings for the same game, all with different serial numbers, and I didn't buy any games and now I'm wondering...

(promised stupid question - not counting the implicit ones above)

...is someone accessing my account and trying to hack something or... something?

ok... Well, thanks, all you veterans, for creating -so- much very cool stuff. I'll be overwhelmed and fairly quiet for some time... But, thank you

There is no *stupid newb here Remember we all had to turn a computer on for the first time.

I personally cannot answer your question, so I would suggest e-mailing sales@stardock.com & give them both the original e-mail account & name that you used to purchase the software, as well as the serial # of the products you purchased & the e-mail address & nickname that you are using here on the forums. They will be able to sort it out for you.

ps. I like your nick

Its wonderful that you want to make skins & stuff. The forums are full of experienced skinnners so do not hesitate to post any questions that you have, regarding the graphic programs & or the programs you are skinning.

That's me. But then, on the post itself, it lists the new nick... Go figure.

Thank you

Being as old as the hills as far as computers go doesn't stop me from feeling new and inexperienced in a given community or discipline.

After working in graphics and design for most of my adult life, I've finally thrown up my hands and decided that I'm not selling creative energy into other people's projects anymore... I'd stare at photoshop or corel all day, and find that when I got home, I could barely stand to pick up a pencil, let alone fire up a graphics app.

I'm looking forward to having the time and energy to look into learning the specific apps and tools and formats and do something I'm excited about.

It's mainly the license listings I know nothing about that had me worried... When I didn't immediately see any "contact us" links, I decided to post here. So I'll follow your advice, send an email, and see if it sets off any bells for those folks.

Thank you again.

Thank you, thank you, and thank you

No telling how long it'll take me to get enough free time to learn enough to produce something I think is worth sharing, but I'm going to enjoy it.

Maybe I can just satisfy my creative urges on some wallpaper in the meantime.
