Weather Widgets Disappearing

Has anyone else run into the situation where their weather widget just disappears? And if so, have you found a way to bring it back? I'm using the Shadow widget and at some point during the night it disappeared. It's still running but it isn't visible. I had this problem in the past running XP and eventually gave up and just used a different weather widget. I'm running Vista now and this is the first time it's happened to me on Vista. Sure, I could just switch to a different widget but I like the Shadow one! It's almost as if it's positioned itself beyond my screen (which is always at 1440x900).

Any help would be appreciated on how to get it back!

(I have already tried ending its process and restarting it and restarting the computer)

Try clearing the DesktopX settings cache. If you've installed to the default location, you could run this file:

http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/clear_cache_dx.bat

If not, just navigate to c:\docs & settings\<your username>\local settings\app data\stardock\desktopx and delete the CurrentTheme directory.

It's possible this might be starting outside the screen or that some other saved setting is causing a problem. Clearing the cache should help.

Hi Mike!

Thanks a lot! That did it!

One thing I'd like to point out in case anyone else runs into this and is using Vista the folder is a little different:
Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Stardock\DesktopX\WidgetCache\[widget folder you're having problems with]

Thanks again!

Oops! I keep forgetting about the differing naming scheme. I do run Vista, but as you can tell my primary machine is still XP

Glad to hear it's back in the realm of the desktop. I personally like to do a check OnScriptEnter as to whether the object's current coordinates would make it visible or not. (Not very helpful if you can't see what you're working with.   )

Richard . . take a look at the original post date.  Guessing resolved or gone.

Hey Richard,

The folder I refer to should be on the C: drive inside the Users folder.
So if your username is Richard it would be in the following folder:

C:\Users\Richard\AppData\Local\Stardock\DesktopX\WidgetCache\[widget folder you're having problems with]

If it's not Richard, just change Richard above to whatever your username is.

And zubaz - yep, it was resolved by this but I'm not gone. I have this thread watched so I'm notified whenever a reply is posted in it. :)

I found it after unhiding operating files under folder options...

Hi Richard,

Sorry, One of the very first things I do whenever I reinstall an OS is to unhide all the hidden files so I don't even think about them being hidden.
