And the survey says...

Figured I would start a new thread on this since it could take a little bit of wading through the fonts in the AI cheating thread started recently to fletch out what people want.
Brad effectively stated that it was up to us regarding what content would be in the next update... fixes or additions. Now I am assuming that he was serious when stating this so if I am wrong someone please correct me. Anyhow, here's my vote:

I would like the next update to address issues/bugs. Leave the additional content/graphics and whatever else for the next update.

Thank you, thank you very much.

Yea, fix the bugs, since the performance has been greatly enhanced.

Yea bugs,

This is the worst first-person shooter I've ever played.

Whether it was meant sarcastically or jokingly... that was good!

I'd rather see the next update focus on tightening all the bolts in the game, too. New features are awesome, but I don't mind waiting for them, or paying for new expansions, etc. Not that I'd want all new features to be in an expansion of course, but I think SD proved with DA that they can make an expansion that includes a lot of new stuff. I think that adding new stuff is undermined by bugginess in the product though, so I'd love to see a dev pass that simply addresses known bugs/issues, including at least determining how involved it would be to fix that turn 0 bug, if not fixing entirely.

My vote would have been yes, but I just have to say no, since they started dangling the carrot of a constructor overhaul. So, unless the devs change their minds about changing the constructors, I will vote NO.

I would vote for half and half. See if they can't nail some off the top ten list of bugs (there is always a top ten list) and try to get a feature or two in.

Stormbringer agrees, although he probably does not realize it.

"I would like the next update to address issues/bugs. Leave the additional content/graphics and whatever else for the next update."

Next is next - not the one before or after the next.

He means next beta -> bug fixes.
two betas out -> additions.

You didn't actually cast a vote of your own their moosetek. You might as well...

I vote half and half like Purge. It would be good to have as many of the major, known bugs fixed as possible and it would also be good to have some new content - improvements to starbases would be a great enhancement.

However, I vote NO for fixing the turn 0 bug simply because the devs have implied that it will probably take a lot of effort to fix for not much gain. I reckon that it can wait until GalCiv3 to be fixed since it has been in the game since GalCiv1.

Aaaaargh!!  You got me Moosetek... I haven't been to a Grammar Nazi rally in quite some time now so I guess I'm slipping.

Good replies though guys. The "half and half" version seems to go against what Brad was putting out there IMO   , but I am not against this idea at all. I imagine we can't have our cake and eat it too and that is probably what the devs are getting at, no matter how we 'argue' the case.
I've thought about it long enough and despite my recent 'rants' I've honestly just decided to take what I get and be happy with it. Some of my games play out to the end, some don't. My brain has been fried trying to figure out what goes wrong at times and that's been the major game spoiler more than the actual CTD's. The reason for this is because then I find myself spending ALL of my available play time running diags and tweaking this, updating that... never actually playing ANYTHING of course.
So I figured I'd use this thread to take a bite of some 'humble pie' and just say to all, sorry for some of my rants regarding this game. To the devs, you guys have a great game here and yes, your support is amazing in my experiences with you. I ranted about DL yet you knew you had my money and 'support' for DA and you know you will have both for whatever comes down the pipe with future GC titles. Forgive my ignorance at times but remember that I'm still behind you and this game. Sometimes my temper gets the better of me and well, you know...

I voted in the other thread, but it's probably lost in all of the comments. For the record, I'd put most bugs at a higher priority than new features.

The saved game/turn0 thing isn't important to me other than it's a known bug. That one can wait until GalCiv99 for all I care.

Can this forum handle polls? If so, the moderators could sticky one and be done with it.

I initially in the other thread stated "If I have been playing this way for 10 months, it doesn't change anything". Well it Does. After checking the reload production bug does not exist as far as I can tell in DL1.5, so it hasn't been this way all along. I wish there was a away to check zero turn bug too, but I haven't found a way in DL.

That changes my stance on it. I still don't really care about the zero turn one, but since the reload bug is a newer addition and can dramatically alter the outcome of some games, I would vote for a fix for that one.
The half and half approach could fit into this scenario. Fix the worst bug and add some new features.

Quoting myself here guys, and bumping of course. Seems the majority of those who responded here leaned towards the bug fix vote more than the features vote, so that's a good thing.
I also wanted to respond to a 'warning' which I just read this morning, from Brad, in the 1.6 Beta thread. Since you all seem to 'know' me pretty well by now I will just say that if I end up saying something that gets me banned, I will miss you guys. Nothing teary mind you, but all of you, even those I don't agree with/get along with are pretty cool people and I feel that I am a better person since having this interaction with you people, so I thank you. Now onto something more my style...
After reading what I said yesterday in that thread, I still found nothing overly agitating or wrong in what I posted... I gave my opinion. Brad, effectively telling me that I've done nothing but complain through a bunch of threads made me go back and look at my replies as of late... I couldn't find anything 'game bashing' other than in that thread, and again, just speaking my mind. Apparently, freedom of thought on this forum is falling by the wayside, especially after seeing what happened to Wheeloffire. If I am to be banned for speaking my mind, so be it. I shall not compromise my stance or integrity, or hell, my honesty, to try and be something I am not, especially online where anyone can pretend to be someone else.
I started this thread in the hopes of getting some honest votes to take to Brad, to see if he truly meant what he said when it was "up to us". I guess, in a way, my vote could be construed as 'starting trouble' and be the reason he is looking for to ban me... again, do whatever you wish. I've defended this game enough that I feel I have every right to bitch when the 'need' arises. Furthermore, I've asked the community itself, especially after TLHeart, to quote me on some of my 'whining' sessions, so that I may see what I truly don't remember, but no one has responded, which is fine.
So guys, please keep this thread alive a bit longer... think of it as a social experiment. It seems almost all of us who have voted so far want bugs/issues fixed. Now it's up to the devs to respond by saying "we hear you and this is what we are going to do...". Let's see if they do. Peace people...

As an aside... went back and re-read that whole beta post. I must be missing something since A: Brad responded a whopping eight hours after my last comments of the day, and...
B: Nothing I was saying was being counter productive or nasty or whatever the hell else was read into my words. I'm about tired of people, regardless of CEO or gamer, going around making it seem like I've said things that I haven't. As far as being disruptive, I didn't see anything of the sort and if people are reading something someone else is posting and then confusing them with me... well, it needs to stop. Now if my saying THIS is reason to lose my account, go right on through.
I've read enough in here today that went right along with things I was saying so in my eyes there are an awful lot of people needing to be 'banned' as well. Again, it isn't just me having some issues here, so lay off me for saying such and deal with criticism.
Now for a more constructive note, since someone was making mention of possible AMD conflicts vs. Intel processors... what resources are at our disposal to find out more regarding this?

Is there even a reason to have a vote at this point? I haven't seen any recent activity with regards to what update will have what.

Fix known bugs & issues affecting gameplay and stability (no, I have no stability issues).

IMO it is a serious bug that the Save feature is not neutral vs. gameplay...also it explains how I have a very hard time keeping up in the initial colony rush, as I tend to play a few turns at a time.

I can't see a ban as a valid threat in your case. There's simply no cause. I hope I'm not misreading the admins here. If I am, being banned from such a forum wouldn't be such a big deal.

Furthermore, I've asked the community itself, especially after TLHeart, to quote me on some of my 'whining' sessions, so that I may see what I truly don't remember, but no one has responded, which is fine.

I've seen no "whining" from you. Also, my view on TLHeart's recent comments is that a troll warrants little or no response. Sorry, but I'm going to call it as I see it.

I believe it still has value. I think the StarDock team genuinely cares about customer input. We're their bread and butter. They seem to know it better than many other companies. Then again, a vote is just a vote. Economics will drive the final decision, and that's as it should be.

Brad was more than a little miffed at me over in the Beta thread started by Carielf... that was the 'threat' that I was speaking of, but water under the bridge at this point. Mottikhan, I know I can always count on you for your input on things and as always, thank you. But you've read what I've posted in the past so I guess my tongue does get me into trouble from time to time as I seem to be more prone to flying off the handle as I get older (must have something to do with the 'old geezer' thing ). Peace!

If what you mean is whatever issues and bugs the devs think are most important, then I'm with you on this. But the "cheating" one ("cheating" in quotes because that's a bit of a stretch) looks too complicated and not nearly important enough to worry about at this point.

It looks as if 1.6 is going to be aiming at increased performance. I've already had a huge lift in performance over the last couple of betas. I know you've been having trouble, ES, so this might not have helped the problem you're having. But hopefully it will with the final build.

Low performance is something I'd consider an issue (not a bug), so it looks like this is already the priority.

Please let me know if I'm not clear about something. I'm not a computer guy

Transparently clear CornhuskerMac! No, the 'cheating' issue wasn't one of my main concerns but I really try not to 'categorize' bugs/issues. What might be minor to me could be quite major to another, true?
Seems like maybe we're hitting onto something with these AMD processors so maybe there is still hope for an ignorant evil one such as myself. We'll see!

Bug fixes should mostly be attended during the beta period.

It is hard to choose which is better.. either new campaigns or a map editor, but i guess a map editor would probably be the thing that would provide the greatest potential increase in game hours before getting bored again.
