Crashing before 2nd mission

I am running GalCiv2 Gold, DarkAvatar 1.50x3.
Going through the dreadlords campaign, I crash out when trying to start the Ixith mission *every time*. This is extremely repeatable and extremely annoying.
Is there some update or something to fix a corrupted campaign file I need to do?
The first thing I did when I installed the game was do the updates from Stardock...
