"Bump" is a way to bring a post up to the top of the forum list.  This is an active forum and problems can get lost.

I've heard it said that it stands for:

Hmm...

I see that secur32.dll and wonder why this is making DX crash. I am actually running Vista Ultimate with DEP ON, and it is running okay (once I get passed the "would you like to run this?" after double clicking it). I have never heard of DEP helping the situation any though.

Are you not able to run either the client or builder? (desktopx.exe and dxbuilder.exe)
Are you able to run gadgets at all? (If you do not have any, I can provide one to test)

If you install SmartException from the 'Free Stuff' section and get DX to crash, does SmartEx catch anything? If so, could you send that in to support@stardock.com ?

Nope, both crashes.

SE is now installed, and it picked up all DX crashes. Results are in the mail!

Well 30 days later have you been able to get DX to run on vista? If so what did you do to get it to run. I have tried to get it to run on Vista Ultimate. It will run in the compatability mode until I try to install a theme Then it crashes. Any one else having trouble running DX on Vista?

Hey Snowman, sorry for my delay. Thank you (and Hankers) for the nudge

This issue had unfortunately become lost and stuck somewhere within the cobwebs of my brain.

I had spoken with the lead developer of DesktopX on this a while back though had not come up with anything helpful

Have either of you (or anyone else experiencing this problem) tried creating another user account w/ admin access and using DesktopX from there?

Murex: Is your crash information indicating a dll is at fault? Do you have any security apps (like antivirus or antispyware) running on your system?

seeing the beast finally slain, I will go back into hibernation... until that time when I should be needed again. (sure wish I could lay claim to some part of fixing the problem though )
