Weather Docklet does not work

Weather Docklet does not work

Weather Docklet by Jeff Barmann Version 1.6 and Stardock

After a recent update I was hoping the weather docklet would updated. It has !!! But it still does not work.I tried Brisbane Australia I tried Oceania Brisbane Australia. No Good.
Maybe it only works in the US. Pity I do not live there. Neither do a lot of your customers
Global what's that?

Is it possible for you to implement, if a user (like me, for example) has multiple instances of weather docklet running to monitor weather in several places at once, an option to "Update all" when right-clicking on any weather docklet? This would certaintly save time manually clicking each one of them or waiting for the next update (how frequent are they btw?). Thanks very much for your help.

At the time of me writing this none of the weather docklets work. All it says is that feed is not available. I have manually tried to update each of my weather docklets and the same result. I hope you know what's going on, because I have no idea

EDIT: While no feeds were displayed, I tried to add another weather docklet and weather lookup caused ObjectDock to freeze and I had to terminate it using Task Manager (noticed a spike in memory usage during this incident). Upon restart of OD the feeds came back on. Can you shed some light please?

Seems to work fine for me now and I am using a Swedish location. Thanks!

Now this one should get Jeff and his team scratching their heads.

I've been using FlashGet to download files and it's been maxing out my connection so much that all the weather docklets I have running (5 in total) have gone blank with a message "Feed not available...please try again later". So what I did was to pause the downloads and manually update each docklet. Guess what? It didn't work!

I'm using the latest beta build of OD+ with WinXP Pro SP2. So how do we solve this one?

My weather docklet has been working fine until yesterday. Now it tells me Feed Not Available. I have deleted the docklet and then re-added but it still comes up as the same. When I enter my town (Aldershot, United Kingdom) it gives me 2 choices neither which work.

I am having the same problem since yesterday, no feeds available. All was working great until now.

I'm in New Jersey, USA and the weather feed has been unavailable for me for about a day. If I can recall, yesterday, my software did an update to Object Dock. Maybe the path to the weather need fixing? Accuweather.com is up and running on the net but these sites will change their links some times? With other weather program utilities, I have had service interuptions because the weather info provider changed their links and you have to adjust paths.????

Hey, I'm from NJ too. My weather came back just after I wrote my previous post. Lets hope it stays for good.

This is getting tiresome...why do i have to restart every time i want to get the feed back?

Come on Jeff? Somebody? No feedback or anything? I know it is beta, but you are supposed to fix bugs we tell you about and give us something that works properly

Our priorities are not always theirs.
I'm sure it'll get fixed.

Oops... just lost the feed again.

Maybe they should use The Weather Channel for the feed.

The Weather Channel and Accuweather have significantly different license fees for commercial use I think.  I think that  Accuweather is the less expensive of the two.

At the moment I am using two SysStats docklets that get an XML feed from TWC.

One is like the OD weather docklet but no forecast flyout. My other docklet is a six day forecast. So I get the same thing but using 2 docklets. Actually the one with the temp gives you the shortrange forecast on a mouseover which is nice.

Aren't we paying them to make our priorities their priorities?
Or purchasing software is not about that at all?
Stardock says that the new stable version of OD is gonna be released soon...
Makes me smile because that "soon" seems a fuzzy blur on the horizon unless we get problems fixed. We try to play with the beta version for a reason, and for such an important feature as weather docklet this is a big deal. I use OD+ every day, which means I expect the people who develop it to work every day on getting it right and making it better...

This might be getting too ugly for the forums and I don't want it to.

Create a case for your bug.  They'll take all the bug reports, prioritize them according to whatever matrix they have and fix as they can.

They are a great company that takes care of their users.  They always have.  They may not be able to meet your schedule but it'll get fixed.  Give them time to fix it.

You can always roll back to the latest release version and avoid the betas.  That might work better for you.

OK, I will create a case for this but the forum should be equally as effective at reporting problems and solutions.

I've no doubt that they are a good company. Having had OD+ for little over a year, this is the most serious issue i've encountered. It seems that they are promising to roll out a stable update soon but i just don't see that happening unless this bug is fixed.

Rolling back wouldn't help because it would not solve the problem in the beta. I am intentionally using beta so i can help stardock improve their products.

P.S. I just don't want to get a response from the support team which will say that because it is beta problems are likely to happen and them not wanting to sort it out together with me. So let's see where this gets us, maybe i should start a blog?....

Zubaz, I know ur tryin to be diplomatic,

I'm really sorry to say this.......

but this post was stared on April 25.... and its been 5 MONTHS!!!!!!

My issues with this part of OD are still the same as the first post I posted... and posted..... and posted.

If you wanna read them them search though the 3 pages relating to this topic.

I was told to wait and be patient 4 months ago and that the issue will be resolved shortly.

Three pages and almost half a year later I see the same problems and the same advice.

Sorry mate, but as a paying customer, being told to wait and be patient just doesnt cut it after that long......you have to start to expect some people to start getting quite irate.

It has been a long time, I understand that.
Unfortunately the relationship with accuweather (either business or technical or whatever) has had  . . issues.

Do we have a right to have a product work as advertised?  Yes.
But . . I think that the rest of OD+ is worth the money.

Should users continue to "remind" the developers of the problem?  Yes
But I get defensive with the attitude I read in some of the posts here (even as I try to be polite about it ).

Do you think Stardock doesn't know or care about their user's frustration?  I know they do.  They want to keep customers happy and want you to tell your friends.  I'd bet they are frustrated too.

I don't know what to say.

Roll back to the last release if you are running a beta.  Create a case.  If they can't help . . uninstall and ask for a refund if that's the killer function.

The weather docklet isn't displaying the proper temp today and even doing an update doesn't work.

I'm going back to SysStats and the XML weather docklet. It uses TWC and is always spot on.

The only cool thing with OD weather is the flyouts. Can this be done using SysStats?

This is getting out of control.

It's been 2 weeks and I haven't got a reply for my support ticket.

If the relationship with Accuweather is suffering and it is impacting the users then how about combining or switching to another provider?

OD+ is definitely worth the money, but whether you pay because of 1 specific feature or a whole bunch it makes this one problem the weakest link and people will continue to exploit it.

We are continuing to remind the developers but it seems to be a one-way street. We need suggestions, feedback from them, updates to the beta etc. Let's try to fix this together!

If everybody will roll back to the stable release then who will do the beta testing? Cases are being created but seem to get very little response. Uninstalling and asking for a refund is no solution, never has been. For all the problems that I'm having with OD+, will Stardock give me a free year on Stardock Desktop or WindowBlinds 6? How about offering bonuses like that to people who have problems with their Stardock products?
