Value of espionage and trading in DL?

I am still playing DL. I half like DA (whatever).

I have played a lot of games (with victory coming only from war).
I have never used espionage. Is it worth it?

I have a little trading but not much. I am not sure it is worth
trading with future enemies. Perhaps with the neutral single planet
parties would be ok. Is it worth it to generate significant revenue?

I'd like to see the espionage-system beefed up a bit, so that the SuperSpy superpower can compete with the other powers.

Being able to sabotage certain structures wouldn't hurt.

Well they can bring a serious hurt onto an enemies production or research if you place them on the right spots . I always make a bunch and place them on enemy manufacturing and technology capitols . Then when they get other major things I'll put a spy on them also . They are also good for nullifying an enemy agent .
