Beta Issues

In the last couple of games I've had a few bugs annoy me. Version 0.62b.010

1. If you build a phase inhibitor in a system all ships not allied are instantly unable to phase shift.

2. If you start building a phase inhibitor in a system after the computer has jumped in it will try to leave the gravity well and no longer attack anything in the system (I've used this to hold large fleets at outer worlds to give my main attack fleet time to get there.)

3. When using embargo on a planet for some odd reason it always specifies that the embargo is being done by a ship that doesn't have it. This past game it kept specifying one of my Akkan class ships.

4. The planet still says it's under embargo after I destroy it and re-colonize it. It goes away after it times out but that doesn't seem right.

5. Some of capital ship abilities are annoying, the shied on the Kol battleships are nice but if left on auto it keeps turning on once it gets within attack range. It would be nice if it didn't kick on unless that ship was under attack.

6. When researching if you setup a queue that depends on the earlier items being researched and then cancel the earlier items none of the other research options will happen. Everything will be queued but nothing will be researched, at least until you cancel the second stage of what you were researching for me this was both stages of planetary shields followed by anything else.

7. Backup has arrived, this is very annoying when I hear backup has arrived and it's just trade ships or other non-combatants.

8. Cultural spread doesn't seem to shift properly. I build some centers on my border planets and while I did have influence lines spreading from that planet the planets behind it were still the enemies color. So halfway between one of the border planets and a core planet it was my color then grey then when it got to my core planet it was the enemies color towards another core planet. I've also had it happen where their cultural influence is spreading out from the sun yet none of their planets have lines to the sun.

9. Another stealing income bug is that at times it says I'm stealing 120% of the income.

10. Damage upgrades don't always change the damage on my ships. Armor upgrades work fine.

Not so much bugs as my thoughts.

1. Missile batteries have an auto returning to position then point at the sun, have them rotate instead or point away from the planet. The green line I see when pressing alt is a little annoying.

2. Have alternate zoom keys if they're aren't any. Nothing on the right side of my keyboard did anything with zoom.

3. If you have multiple ships selected instead of just showing one ships choices in the bottom right have it show just the special choices and the fighter options (No passives).

4. Have an option to disable fighter icons, Even on small maps I'll get anywhere from at least 6 to 24 squadrons, it's hard to target a specific ship unless I zoom all the way in.

5. When I alt-tab out to answer an IM or e-mail the sound continues playing and the game doesn't pause it would be nice if it auto-paused and suspended game sound (It generally only does if I'm zoomed in.)

6. The caps-lock button for quick zoom-in zoom-out. It would be nice if we could set the zoom levels and thresholds. Such that if press caps lock to zoom-in and then click the mouse back one notch then press caps lock again it zooms me out to the overhead view instead. But say if I click out 7 or 8 notches it will zoom be back in.

7. On mouse over icon changes would be nice red over enemy ship etc.

Oops another issue is that when I take over a planet it lets me choose to build a trade port despite the fact I haven't upgraded the planet yet.

The Z,X,C keys are for default level of zoom, try them, they will be your friend, should you get tired of the mouse wheel!

Some things I'd like to add:

You are able to see that an enemy planet has an orbital shield even though you don't have vision of the planet. Similarly, I was able to see munitions and explosions from a battle around a planet that I didn't have vision of.

Those are bombs going to the surface.

As C_M_C said, it is possible to embargo a planet for over 100% of its income. I haven't been able to tell if I am actually getting 400% of their income or not. I have also seen ship stats such as "phase missile block" over 100%

In both multi-star games that I have played, the phase line from the second star back to my home star does not show up. I am able to see the line from my home star to the second one but not the other way. Me and the enemies are able to travel back to the star but there just isn't a line.

Minor graphical problem:

The roid sticks out past its shield. Its a dead asteroid fyi.

And this is so minor that I feel kinda silly even bringing it up. When a ship has auto ability upgrades on and levels up while in phase space (purchased upgrade) or auto is turned on while it is in phase space, the ability points aren't spent until the ship exits phase space. Not sure if that was done intentionally or not.

This will be improved.

8. Cultural spread doesn't seem to shift properly. I build some centers on my border planets and while I did have influence lines spreading from that planet the planets behind it were still the enemies color.

I haven't notice this behaviour yet. Thanks, we'll look into it.

2. Have alternate zoom keys if they're aren't any. Nothing on the right side of my keyboard did anything with zoom.

In the options menu you are free to map the keys as you wish

We are looking into various solutions to many icon-related problems.

The green line I see when pressing alt is a little annoying.

Can you take a screenshot please?

Thanks!

Here are the green lines from the missile batteries, and on their own they are moving towards the sun. I jumped most of the fleet out towards the right so that the carriers and such wouldn't clutter the screen.

The income is a little off because I started watching old episodes of stargate and hadn't paused the game. (Only made this system for the screen shot) They apparently had jumped past my fleets razed the capital planet then left, but they didn't make it back out.

8. This only happens to me when I haven't built broadcast centers yet. It appears that even if I cut off the source of the culture flow it will still spread from infected planets.

New Suggestion.

8. I've been using alt and then clicking a ship to select all of that type however it selects all frigates or all capital ships etc. How about you select the ship types you want then hit a key and selects all of those types in the system?

Thanks for the response.

Good Idea, but I'd rather just have it select the same type of ships in the gravity well.

Err, that's what I was thinking ServiusVivo, but the way my brain often sees it is that the giant star in the middle is the heart of either a spiral or a cluster type galaxy. And each planet being the only not capable of sustaining life that does not have an indigenous population. So uh what you said.

Thanks for the z x c keys lordkosc the x and c are the two zooms I see for capslock and I'ld like to be able to set the x one click back, it's easier for me to see the icons for minerals than to find the glittering hunk when I have a dark background versus the dust cloud in the picture above. It still is nicer to use x and c though.
