OD 1.6 Beta Bug Reports

Hiccups on the path to greatness...

https://forums.wincustomize.com/?forumid=59&aid=148740
Well, we're now into the beta testing phase for the popular graphical shortcut and taskbar replacement, ObjectDock!  However, with all developement, there are growing pains as well.  Its best to get them all gathered together here in one place, where the developer can pop in and keep us all up to speed on changes and fixes.

Without further ado, I declare this thread open for business!

Jeff: Yep, the taskbar dock was on the left and the sys tray on the top. Both under 128. Thanks for your work. OD+ has been an indispensable program for me since it was very first released (in beta). I love it. Thanks again.

Two issues with OD build 531u on Vista 32bit:

1) I see there is a new feature called "Use minimize animation in Vista". What is this supposed to do exactly? Turning it on or off has no effect. I still get the same old Vista minimize animation which appears to be minimizing it to the next free position on the (hidden) taskbar. I presume this feature is supposed to replace the default Vista animation with one that actually minimizes it with animation to its position on the dock?

2) I've notice that even though I have "Always show windows as thumbnails" checked in Vista and show minimized windows on the dock, I either get only the icon and not a thumbnail OR I get the full sized icon over top of the thumbnail instead of the thumbnail and small icon in lower right. This was actually a problem with this same feature in OD 1.5 Plus under XP.

Screen shot attached... Note how after repeated opening and minimizing, one of the Samurize applications icons is covering the thumbnail. The other is working properly. I have not set an image association for this application or either running instance.

I'm seeing something that Lotherius mentioned in reply #58: The mouse cursor occasionally freezes while OD+ is running. It usually happens when applications (including OD itself) are in the process of displaying menus. Once the complete menu is displayed, the mouse cursor un-freezes.

Windows zoom in and out if you have teh video card and Vista version to handle it.  It's very cool.

rickbert: does the mouse cursor itself freeze? or does just ObjectDock's zoomign freeze? Thanks!

JMBdev: I have reported the same proplem as the mouse freezing earlier in this thread.

The actual pointer stops moving like a system hardlock, even if it is not currently over OD+. I'm running Vista with an ATI x850xt and a dual core AMD.

With regard to the freezing, I've found that having "Reserve edge of screen" turned on causes far more freezing/stuttering that with it off. I've also observed the Start button being constantly redrawn during the stuttering.
OD is configured with a normal dock on the bottom (showing some shortcuts & running tasks) and a tabbed dock on the top edge set to auto hide. "Reserve edge of screen" was set for the bottom dock. This is all on Vista Ultimate 32bit if it matters.

A couple of other issues I've noted:
1) On XP, when the screensaver comes on it seems to kill OD
2) Certain systray apps do not respond to either double-click or displaying their context menus e.g. Windows Live Messenger.

Samurai303/Lotherius:

Trying to track this down...are you using System Trays on any docks / in any tabbed docks? If so, can you try removing them and restarting and seeing if the problem goes away? I'm concerned that this could have to do with the tray functionality. Trying to figure this one out.....

JMBdev: As Lotherius responded, the mouse cursor itself freezes temporarily. I am using a single zooming bar, normal layering, no tasks in the bar, and "Reserve edge of screen" is unchecked. This is an XP machine with Intel graphics and a Logitech mouse. Version 1.58(b).008 is the last version that does not exhibit mouse freezing for me.

I just updated OD Plus v 1.60 build 531U. Stardock Central lists that 1.59b.010 is installed but the OD about says it's 1.60 etc preview. Not much works. My internet links go to my homepage. Also when I right click on an icon there is nothing in the menu to change it or to view the link/shortcuts to any of my programs. I'm referring to the dock. Frustrated.... wish I wouldn't have updated. Is it possible to go back to my prior version? Running WindowsXP Media Thanks

Sorry, I previously posted this in the wrong place.

JMBdev: Tried on Windows XP both with and without the tray and can't say that there is much to choose between them, although, for me at least, the effect is not as noticable on XP as it is on Vista.
I'll try it on Vista later when I get home from work.

Samurai303: so having the lagging problem on both XP / Vista, with and without the tray. Hrm :-/ Alright. Have you tried temporarilly disabling docklets? Look at the bottom of the Advanced Dialog for an option to temporarilly turn them off. Not sure if you're running any or not. Might want to try temporarilly removing the Weather item as well (which technically isn't a docklet anymore, but i should have that disable when "disable docklets" is checked...)

Thank you very much for the help...

I am recieving same bugs on both vista ultimate and xp home.

If the dock is place anywhere but at the bottom it does not work properly. It is near impossible to click icons if dock is place on sides. You have to fumble around and hit it just right to get it to launch. Also on xp with dock at bottom the taskbar is having issues unhiding.I normally use auto hide not the hide function from the dock.

Updated to 1.59[b].010 .... still no right click menu for dialup connection icon, in systray.

Love the new "Spacing and Alignment" settings. I've wanted that alignment slider for a very long time.

Koasti: XP or Vista? Wireless or plugged? Thanks

Yeah new build is coming today. Feature-complete so hoping this can be a final beta, we'll see how it goes. Amoung some other things, there is a new "Troubleshooting" dialog that should allow for quicker troubleshooting of problems by providing quick-access to disabling abilities of ObjectDock. Hopfully this will help us out in troubleshooting the mouse-lagging problem some have seen

That's sounds interesting.

JMBdev: Right, done some more testing. I'm not sure that XP is so much of an issue now - maybe it was an earlier build as it seemed fine all afternoon.
As to Vista, I've managed to get a reproducible scenario where the cursor lag/stutter is in effect:
Set OD to Reserve edge of screen & Always on top (in fact just doing that causes some lag)
Start Internet Explorer and then immediately launch Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc. If you move the mouse at all, then it lags all over the screen.
Observations on the above:
The IE icon remains in the "Bounced" state until the lag has stopped
The Task Manager icon does not appear until the lag has stopped, although its window does
With IE running, starting Task Manager it takes approx 20 secs for the lagging to stop & the icon to appear. Closing Task Manager takes around 13 secs, and, although the icon disappears straight off, the space it occupies remains with the lagging.

The other most notable area fo lagging is when playing movie files, although this is not as readily reproducable as the above.

Set OD to not reserve the edge & Hide off screen when not in use and all is fine. It also doesn't make any noticable difference whether the tray is on or off, or if Docklets are disabled (don't think I'm running any anyway)

Hope the above is of some use!

I have reinstalled windows since I tested OD+ last.. but yes, I did have a system tray active as well. The way Samurai303 describes the problem sounds very close to what was happening to me.

Lortherius/Samurai/rickbert: the laggy mouse problem has been solved! I'm going to update again tomorrow evening (Wednesday) with the fix. I think that was the last major problem we were seeing, was it not? Did I miss anything? Last build takes care of everything else pretty much I feel. (Yes I know, the troubleshooting button isn't hooked up properly if you click it from a *tabbed* dock's properties dialog )

Bug with OD+ 1.6.532u
Start Menu Control on secondary monitor popup is weird
By Foobie

OD+ Bug: Start Menu Control on secondary monitor popup is buggy/erratic.

How to reproduce:
1) Have dual monitor setup under vista ultimate, nvidia video card, object dock plus latest beta (see title
2) Move OD to *secondary monitor* on the bottom of the display.
3) Add "New 'Start Menu' Entry to bar
4) Click on new start menu icon.

When you click on the icon, the icon will either appear in one of three places, depending on where you click on it:

1) Off the bottom of the screen on the secondary monitor (the upper left hand corner of the menu appears at the click point). It first flickers in the right position (#3 below) before going into this bad position.
2) On the primary monitor on the far right hand side (not desirable)--not on the secondary monitor at all. It does flicker in the right position first (#3 below) before moving, usually.
3) In the correct position, where the click point is the lower left hand corner of the start menu on the secondary monitor. This happens rarely.

Please advise, or let me know if i can provide more info. I love this program!

I'm running XP Pro SP2 with cursorXP ATI AllInWonderX800 Logitech wireless MXLaser100 Mouse. Even with the new update The mouse slows down when you open a new menue or window or starting a new program. Seems to work fine after starting. The Scrolling function is verry jerky not smooth like it should be. The dock itself with all functions seems to work fine. I Have a Majong game that wont play at all because the mouse seems to move all over when you try to play. Not sure if the game is a related issue but it worked fine before the last couple of updates.

Only issues I have remaining are the occasional closing as reported by rustysam (although it may be sorted via the latest build as it hasn't happened yet) on XP - not noticed it the same on Vista and some tray icons not working correctly on XP at least. Primary culprits are Windows Live Messenger - can't open it at all, and Outlook 2007 (which is set to minimize to tray) which sometimes works Ok but mostly not, although the new mail envelope does open it. The context menus do not appear for these icons either. This is on XP with the tray in a tabbed dock - not tried on Vista as I don't have either app installed.

Hello
With the latest build (532u) by OD+ is now working again (i had the same problem of BlueDev) but it seems to have a little bug affecting flyout menus: after clicking its icon, the flyout shows up, but the outmost icons seems to be _under_ the dock instead of hovering above it (as if being on a lower layer, so to say). After a complete turn of the wheel, though, all comes back to normal. My machine is running WinXP SP2

P.S.: OD+ is really a nice piece of work, thank you for this software and your time spent on all these feedbacks
