WB working oddly

Hi folks,

I was considering buying the whole shebang for 49.94 but now I'm so sure. I downloaded and installed the v5.5 WindowBlinds shareware.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled it several times to no avail. Here is what happens after a fresh install and reboot:

I open up the configuration window, I select a theme, and hit apply. It works, the new theme is applied fine. When I reopen the configuration window and try a different theme I get the window error sound "Thunk" with no error window at all and nothing changes. Same thing if I try to unload WB from memory. If I then reboot, nothing changes, the first theme is still installed and any attempts to change it or quit WB gets me that "Thunk" sound and no error message. (by the way, the actual sound is the NOTIFY.WAV file, if you need to know which sound it is.)

I HAD CursorXP installed yesterday and that was working great, but no longer, it also gives me that sound and won't load any cursors, I've uninstalled it already so it's not a conflict there I don't think.

My "system information" dialog is as follows:

"WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 5 (5.5 (build 93 x86)) - Shareware

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC

Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

(Dell M992 (DPMS)) 1 is attached to RADEON 9800 SERIES

Wblind.dll 2007/03/07 10:09:44
Wbsrv.dll 2007/03/05 16:36:25
Wbconfig.exe 2007/03/06 20:11:09
Wbload.exe 2006/09/30 13:59:14
Wbhelp.dll 2004/09/18 15:37:07
Wbui.dll 2005/11/26 18:09:25
Tray.dll 2006/04/28 18:27:49
"

Thanks for any help in advance, I really would like to play with this program and purchase the full product but not it if won't work on my system.

p.s. I hope this is posted in the right spot, if not, please forgive me.

usually a thunk with no message means you're trying to click on an inactive window while an overriding active window needs attention first.

I think Stardock Central will show trial versions
try: uninstall & reboot - then download and install Stardock Central. Use Stardock Central to download and install WB.

I did that already, the Stardock Central program just sends me to download.com from the internal browser just like it does from the website in firefox.
About the thunk, ya, that's what it seems like, but there's no other windows showing.

When I started to uninstalled it those many times, it gave the same thunk, paused a for seconds then continued to uninstall.

Oh well, thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the bump Secret.

As an update, something else odd is happening. When I go to change the theme, it blinks as if it wants to change, (though it doesn't do the clear message window in front of the blurred background thing it did the first time) then make that sound, but now it's changing HALF the theme to the new them and leaving the other alone. Here's an image showing what I mean. Notice the title bar is skinned with the edisso theme and the taskbar on the bottom is skinned with the Fett skin, both samples, not downloaded skins.

Strange. hope the image shows, first time using Photobucket for me.

Is FF the only browser you've been using?
I've seen other issues like FF jumping and jittering when WB is applied - was tied to the bookmarks toolbar.

Have you tried with IE or Opera?

Regular explorer windows do the same?

All windows are the same, notice the capture screen program title bar? And I'm thinking the taskbar NOT changing wouldn't have anything to do with using Firefox...dunno. I never use IE unless I have to. I've just uninstalled WB and am doing some registry clean up stuff, after that I'll reinstall and see if IE has anything to do with anything.

ANY suggestions are appreciated.

Well, did a complete reinstall again...as before the first time selecting a skin it went perfectly. Blurred background clear "Please wait" window, everything was great, then the second and every time after, the THUNK sound and no changes. This is before starting ANY program besides WB. No browsers, no explorer windows, nothing. (Not counting the stuff that loads automatically like my Logitech LCD keyboard drivers)

Hmmm, I think I'll go to safe mode and see if I can start it up there...I've been to safe mode to try to uninstall it more completely...

Anyway...

What files are in the \shareware directory off the WB directory?

It sounds like something running on your PC is blocking the nag screens in CXP & WB from opening.

I'll reinstall it again after I get home from work and tell you.

I work afternoons, so it'll be awhile.

Now that you say it, the nag screen does pop up the first time I use it but, you're right it doesn't after it starts to fail. is there something in the registry I should try to find and delete that could be causing that?

Maybe a 3rd Party pop-up blocker or Antivirus software blocking scripts?
